I've made my feelings about AI quite clear. When it comes to AI "art"... it's theft. When it comes to AI "writing"... it's theft. AI has mined the hard work of countless creatives in order to make a Frankenstein monster that's delivered to you based on what you want it to provide.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
AI needs vast resources to operate, centered around the data centers which power them. And the more you look into it, the worse it gets.
AI many, many times does not provide accurate information. Which means a lot of people relying on AI for information are being lied to. And this is how misinformation starts, which is destroying us.
It goes on and on.
There are, however, many uses for which AI can be a benefit. One of my favorite has been AI analysis for weather patterns to provide more advanced warning to people in the path of weather-related danger. Or analyzing patient scans to provide better care. Stuf like that.
But, no, I don't endorse AI when it comes the mass-adoption models we're getting.
This morning I took a look at Facebook's Muse AI agent to see if it was worth destroying the planet to install more data centers.
But first thing's first. I asked my fuzzy Muse avatar to add some bear ears. And this is what I got...
Adorable.
And then I got to work. Asking Muse to help me with finding information, shop for the best prices, and helping me build a travel itinerary.
The results were better that what I've seen from other AI models, but there were always problems. Information wasn't entirely accurate. Travel itineraries were basic. And shopping usually ignored a bunch of places where I would have checked if I were charged with finding the best price...
I tried five times to have Muse find the best price on an item. It only did so three of the five, and I was able to find better with minimal effort twice. And so... would I trust Muse to hunt down the best price for me as a shopping agent? No, not really. I'd be too worried that it would give up before searching all the places I would check. The only way this would be useful to me would be if Muse checked a lot more places, including those that I didn't know to check and finds lower pricing than I could find. And what about finding the best shipping inclusive price? Without that, it's all pretty useless. Maybe it finds an item $10 cheaper at one place... but the shipping cost makes its total price $5 more? That just means I'm paying more. Which is certainly not worth stripping the planet of resources.
And so... cute as Muse is, I'm going to be ignoring it. Like I'm ignoring most AI tools that are being unleashed because they aren't worth the trouble.
Maybe if I asked Muse to turn into a cat?
Today was a sad day because I had to turn the heat on in my home because my cats were always curled up like they were freezing, but I'm putting on a happy face... because an all new Bullet Sunday starts...now...

• Stay Seated! I keep hearing these stories of airline passengers losing their shit because they asked somebody to swap seats with them and that person refused. It's insane. People book the seats they want. Sometimes they pay extra money to book the seats they want. If there's a seat you want, then book that fucking seat! I don't care if you want to sit next to your husband or grandmother or child. I want the seat that I paid for! I have swapped seats when asked a couple times... but only to an equivalent seat. I have twice asked somebody to switch seats with me... but they were military personnel flying home, and I was asking to swap my First Class seat with their Economy seat because they had already been on a very long flight from their deployment and I wanted to thank them for their service by letting them have a seat they could rest on before they get home to people who were excited to see them and not letting them rest. But otherwise? STOP EXPECTING PEOPLE TO GIVE UP THEIR SEAT!!!
• Super! "Artificial" means that something is "not naturally occurring." AI is not naturally occurring, and the only thing super about it is that real human intelligence made it possible. That's about as accurate as it gets.
This is just an attempt by billionaires to rebrand their tech to try and spin it from a negatively-perceived technology to a positively-perceived technology. You can call me "the enemy" all you want, but it's not going to change facts.

Fuck anybody who thinks that public programming like this deserves to be defunded. Every other fucking thing on television is built to sell things to kids... not educate them. We need more education.

But the post was entirely just me unloading in the worst way possible, which is something I've been trying to avoid. It's not going to change any minds. It's not going to change our situation. It's not going to do anything except drive my blood pressure even higher than it already is. And so... I've edited out all of that and left the bit that's still an official unloading, but not to the extent it was.
So here we go...
Today I woke up and the first thing I saw was more bullshit science denial on the Artemis II mission. Something that immediately sends me into a rage. How the fuck did we get to a place where ignorance and idiocy is this prevalent? Everybody and their dog is spouting their favorite conspiracy theory which is easily disproved if they took two minutes to educate themselves, but no. Blatant dumbassery is where we're at.
But what's worse? AI slop bullshit is everywhere. Fake photos of fake situations reinforcing the idea that the mission itself is fake. And it's not just being shared by random people... I've seen it on astronomy social media!
Just look at this shit. None of this from NASA's site. Just AI slop photos with different prompts for the same fucking scene...
Some of them are noticeably worse than others. This one doesn't even look like a photo...
Though this is my favorite because it's so hilariously fake...
God I despise AI slop generative images. It's not doing anything to improve society and, indeed, is rushing things along to make things worse.
We are constantly under assault from those who wish to steal from us, harm us, or otherwise make our lives miserable. From telemarketers to spam emails, fuckers are everywhere.
And now there's AI. As with so many applications of this new technology, it's making our lives demonstratively worse. Then today I saw this...
Soon enough, AI will be too smart for tricks like this.
And then we're even more fucked than we are now.
The winner of the AI game could walk away with billions of dollars.
With a prize this huge, the competition is fierce. Scary fierce. And, as you can imagine, entirely too many assholes are going to stop at nothing to get ahead. They will fuck over however many people it takes and just not give a shit.
I'm still waiting for AI to be widely applied in any meaningful way. Right now it seems to be mostly theft. Stealing from artists. Stealing from writers. Stealing from media. Stealing from whatever can be stolen from. All so computers can learn how to generate fake stuff that looks like real stuff for people who don't want to put in the work to creating stuff for themselves.
The only thing I've heard of where AI has been beneficial is studying hurricane data to better predict where hurricanes will end up... and studying medical data to better diagnose X-rays and body scans. Stuff like that. No theft involved.
Other than that? I dunno. It sure as fuck hasn't been a benefit on my iPhone.
Maybe one day.
But anyway, getting back to the negatives. Here's something that should give everybody pause...

Which is something that feels more like science-possibility than science-fiction with each passing day.

• Defunct Autonomatons! Defunctland released another video, and this one is beyond good... assuming you're into Disney stuff. This one is just over four hours long, but the time flies by as usual because Kevin Perjurer is just that good at his job. For the most part, this is just a timeline of Disney's adventures into autonomous animatronics, but it's also somehow deeply embarrassing for Disney who has become synonymous with overpromising and underdelivering...
They'll get there eventually. And once they do I'm sure it will be incredible. And, can I just say that Perjurer's take on whether Walt Disney would want himself resurrected as an animatronic is perfect? Probably because it's the same opinion I have.
At least until the autonomous animatronics get loose and decide to kill all the guests. Westworld never looked so adorable. I mean, just look at this...

It's the busy time of year for me! I start work at 4:30am, head into the office at 8:30am, then head back home at 3:30pm, grab something to eat, then work until I fall asleep.
The problem is that I am so exhausted when I go home to eat that every little thing feels like too much effort. Just look at the number of times I dreaded having to do something menial...
But anyway...

How does this not scare the ever-loving shit out of people? He did this for fun, but you just know there are thousands upon thousands of people going through this for real.
I have turned off every AI option I can find on all my devices and have done what I can to eliminate AI with the services I use (including Google, where you can search with "-ai"). I do this not just because it's rarely helpful and a waste of time, but also because I don't want to contribute to AI farms stealing resources and destroying lives.
Maybe AI can destroy my life so I can stay in bed tomorrow.
After talking with a friend who had just watched Mickey 17, which stars Robert Pattinson, I remembered that he also starred in the Christopher Nolan's Tenet, a movie I like the more times I see it.
This time was no different. Such a brilliant film.
I've watched videos, read articles, and examined timeline charts in order to better understand the film. And here's another one which was very recently released (spoilers, of course)...
I love that the movie is so deep that videos and articles are still being written about it.
Next up from Nolan is his adaptation of The Odyssey, the trailer for which has apparently leaked online. I'm not going to try and watch anything until Universal officially releases it. Otherwise I know that I'm going to undoubtedly be clicking on a fucking shit-ton of AI-generated shit, because that's what YouTube is all about now-a-days.

Unlike Facebook, YouTube may actually be trying to curb the AI slop we're being inundated with. Thank God. I am so sick and fucking tired of this crap that it almost makes me want to abandon the internet so I don't have to see it.
