NOH8

Posted on Friday, August 14th, 2009

Dave!I was hoping that this homophobic crap would be laughed off of Washington's ballot... but it looks as though the protections we have for same-sex couples and their families here in the Evergreen State is going to be challenged come November. And this isn't even a "marriage" issue... it's just for their domestic partnership rights! Apparently opponents of equality managed to find 120,577 people who are so insecure in their beliefs that the very thought of somebody being allowed to have different beliefs was scary enough to sign a petition.

Riiiiiight.

The divorce rate is rapidly approaching 50% in the USA, yet we need to pass laws to protect the sanctity of this institution from the "gay agenda."

Riiiiiight.

Two atheists can get married in a non-religious ceremony so long as they have opposing genitalia, and yet making laws to define marriage by one group's interpretation of their religious views is not at all discriminatory towards homosexuals.

Riiiiiight.

Forcing somebody to live by your standards and stripping them of their rights when they don't is not hating on them.

Riiiiiight.

This would all be laughable if it weren't so very sad. I find it positively absurd that two consenting adults living in the United States of America in 2009 have to fight to have the same rights afforded to everybody else because of who they choose to love. Apparently, some people haven't done the math...

The Love Equality Formula... Love + Love = Love + Love

Well, whatever.

I refuse to buy into such blatant discrimination. I am of the opinion that people are people and should be treated equally. I believe that love is love. I feel that there is enough room in society for consenting adults to decide for themselves if they want to marry. I know that devaluing somebody in the eyes of the law because of their sexuality is wrong. I say NO H8...

DAVETOON: NO H8

I hope that one day people are going to wake up and start taking responsibility for their own lives rather than making others responsible for their problems. In the meanwhile, we have to deal with bullshit like this when there are far greater issues we should be focusing on.

Like squirrels ruining our photos...

Tequilaconcrashersquirrel-1

We really should be doing something about that.

Dude, apparently those people don’t understand this, but squirrel do NOT have vicious feet. That is a scary prairie dog! See google images:

    standing squirrel
    vs.
    standing prairie dog

for proof. Look at the feet!

    And: NO H8!

  2. Poppy says:

(Unless maybe it’s a hybrid squirrel-prairie dog. Freaky deaky.)

  3. Sybil Law says:

    I agree.
It’s infuriating, these pompous, self serving assholes, who think they know what’s best for everyone.
    GAH.
However, I love the squirrel shot!!! (And the original is freaking hilarious, too!)

  4. kapgar says:

I would worry less about squirrels invading the photos and more about who the fuck is feeding them so they grow some damn big! I bow now to my squirrely masters (just coverin’ my ass, dude).

  5. Miss Britt says:

    Down with squirrels!

Or, you know, prairie dogs, if Poppy’s right.

  6. claire says:

Great post, Dave, though it sucks about the attack on gay rights in Washington. I can only hope the religious right’s well-funded, relentless attacks will inspire more folks to stand up and say NO H8!

  7. whall says:

Yay State’s rights! Go 10th Amendment! Rah rah rah!

  8. Avitable says:

I have yet to see any legitimate argument against civil gay marriages. Yet people still support it. Argh.

  9. Sarah says:

I thought I was going to have something to say but then I went and read Poppy’s comment and now all I’m doing is staring at those feet.

    So there’s that.

  10. Robin says:

You know what the saddest thing is to me? IMO, this whole issue comes down to sex. Because at the end of the day, the only REAL difference between “us” and “them” is the way “we” have sex. I mean really….think about it. If anyone can give me a VALID argument stating otherwise, I would love to hear it…..but I really doubt that will ever happen.

People need to focus on improving themselves and their families rather than being bigots.

    Poppy’s right – I think that’s a prairie dog….but it’s still an awesome pic. :)

  11. delmer says:

You know what they say about squirrels with big feet? They’ve got big… wait, that’s a prairie dog? I’ve no idea what they say about the big footed among those guys.

  12. Tug says:

Awesome post…I couldn’t agree more. Except for the squirrel/prairie dog thingie – I think (s)he adds to the photo. ;-)

  13. Iron Fist says:

What people don’t know about that photo is that a mere second after ruing our shot that vicious giant rodent spun around and knocked Sandra’s beer out of her hand with one giant paw, and made off with the bottle of Patron with the other.

  14. Nenette says:

Yup, that’s a prairie dog. We have a ton of those here… on the prairie.

My 92yo grandmother lives in Seattle, and she doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. Everyone should be able to live the life they want to live with anyone they choose to live with, she says. Except she says it in Tagalog.

  15. A Lewis says:

Doesn’t quite add up, does it? I’m more than proud of you and your stance for fairness and equality. many many thanks.

  16. I love the Davetoon. Too much H8.

  17. martymankins says:

    NOH8

One of our wacky ass freaks that camps out at the Utah State House during legislature talks about “it’s just a choice” Well, so is religion and we don’t see people clamoring to remove the right to worship as one chooses to.

Of course, in the case of same-sex, it’s not a choice. But regardless, these freaks wanting to take away and continue to deny rights to tax paying citizens is just plain wrong and un-American.
