Goodbye

Posted on Monday, November 25th, 2013

Dave!Damn. I'm not going to lie. Few moments in television history have shocked me so badly or hurt me so badly as watching last night's episode of The Family Guy (so, yeah, spoilers and stuff are ahead).

The show is recorded on my DVR every Sunday, but I usually save it for later in the week. Last night I had to stay up until midnight for a time-sensitive bit of work, so I watched it shortly after it had aired... with no warning and no internet spoilers.

Today, of course, the story is burning up the internets.

Which, I suppose, was the entire point of what happened... though I'm sure it wasn't the only reason. And while it's entirely possible that events will eventually become undone, I'd hope that the writers would respect the show too much to actually undo it.

And yet...

Brian Hugs

I sure will miss one of the best characters ever to air on television.

Animated or otherwise.

It doesn’t appear that he did it for any reason other than the shock value (and to one-up The Simpsons). I’m not invested in the show, so I really don’t care. But I’ve read that Stewie has a non-working time machine right now. I’m guessing it gets “fixed” and Brian comes back sometime in the near future, er, past, er…something.

Damn… this was one of the saddest TV events that I remember watching.

  3. I freaked the hell out! That was the funniest character on the damn show! Lately the whole “Animation Domination” line up seems to be phoning it in, but I usually enjoyed Family Guy for the Brian & Stewie Crosby/Hope retreads. I’m gonna miss that dog.

  4. cher says:

    I’m hoping for “dream sequence”.

  5. john says:

I find it difficult to believe this is a permanent change. It will be a gutsy move if it is, but I’m not convinced yet that it actually is.

In other news, “You have a bad reputation in the Chicken community” was comedy gold.

  6. What? I’ve been out of the country! Must google now!

  7. The Medium says:

    I was dumbfounded by this.
Brian and Stewie are arguably the two most intellectual (and truly funny) characters in the show.

    What was Seth thinking?????
