Tracer

Posted on Friday, August 24th, 2012

Dave!Apple sued Samsung because Samsung copied the iPhone.

Samsung claimed that they totally didn't copy the iPhone... even though it was kind of obvious that they did. But, then again, Samsung copies most everything from Apple. There are even blogs dedicated to showing all the stuff they copy.

Today the jury dropped their verdict, which supports Apple's claims and totally called Samsung out for being fucking tracers...

A bit of genius from Chasing Amy

And now all the hand-wringing has started because Samsung is crying that this verdict will stifle innovation. That companies won't make smartphones anymore because they'll worry about being sued by Apple. That consumer choice will be limited in the US because only Apple will be making phones.

Which is all a load of crap. Anybody can make a smartphone... just stop fucking tracing over Apple!

Instead, why not make your own damn smartphone design? Like the Nokia did with their Windows Lumia phone...

Nokia Lumia

Looks nothing like Apple. Nobody's going to confuse that with an iPhone.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S...

Nokia Lumia

Just admit it, Samsung. You're a fucking tracer!

And, because I just can't stop myself...

Such an awesome movie.

All smartphones copy the iPhone to a degree. But you are right. That Samsung phone is a pure copy. Bad.

  2. Kailyn says:

I skipped the clips because I just watched “Chasing Amy” a few weeks ago. Hadn’t seen it in years and had forgotten how funny it was.

“I want mine signed by the guy who actually draws the pictures.” haha

    • Dave2 says:

Kevin Smith always has a lot of good quotables in his movies… but “Chasing Amy” is just mesmerizing for the sheer quantity of it. I swear, it’s almost as if every piece of dialog is the perfect quotable.”

  3. Stacey says:

This post is brilliant. I now have a bloggy crush on you. Also I want to watch Chasing Amy again.

  4. Troy says:

Maybe if Samsung made their tablets and phones with perpendicular corners instead of curved corners they wouldn’t have been sued?

What I want to know is there any technology being copied? I think the machines look different enough – and you definitely are going to figure it out when you can’t get buy stuff from the Apple Store.

Everyone sues everyone else in the smartphone business. I think Research in Motion has it’s only legal department that deals with all of the lawsuits they are fitting and filing.

    • Dave2 says:

You think the CORNERS are the only thing that looks like a direct copy of Apple? The entire piece looks like a carbon copy… from the shape, design, and icon layout (not to mention the icons themselves) to everything else. And it’s not that people are going to be confused that they can’t buy a Samsung at an Apple Store… it’s exactly the opposite. People walk into Wal-Mart or their local wireless story, see the Samsung looking almost exactly like an iPhone that they’ve seen in the billions that Apple spent on advertising, then buy it thinking that they’re getting the phone they saw. They are easily confusable… unlike the Microsoft/Nokia phone I showed, which looks entirely different not only in the design and structure, but with the OS running the phone. You would never mistake this for an iPhone.

  5. Troy says:

I also think that whoever runs that “Samsung Copies Apple” blog is reading a lot into most of the “similarities”- except for the first post. That is pretty similar. It would be interested to have some chronology on some of those items.

    • Dave2 says:

Are you kidding me? I am not saying there are similarities… I’m saying they are COPIES. The products look like Apple… the advertising looks like Apple… the packaging looks like Apple… even the new Samsung retail stores look like Apple. Small, subtle differences are simply not enough to distinguish the two companies. Consumer confusion is inevitable when Samsung can’t even pick different colors for their copies.

The Galaxy S was pretty blatant.

Now queuing up Chasing Amy for a future viewing.

  7. Totally awesome movie! One of my favorites.

Some of the conversations in it are just brilliant (or idiotic)!

    Back to Apple:
But when I think I Apple and copying, I often think they copied the Palm Pilot, but then I remember the Newton, which was way before it’s time.
