Merit

Posted on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Dave!Tonight on the news they used the word "sexting" without bothering to define it. The fact that such a word is so pervasive that it is assumed to be generally understood is bizarre to me. They then went on to a segment about how "experts" have declared "texting" to be an addictive behavior for teens, who send text-messages by the hundreds. Next up: "experts" declare water to be wet.

I'd blog about the insanity of it all, but I have to get back to making TequilaCon Attendance Merit Badges...

TequilaCon Merit Badges 2005-2010

One. More. Day. To get everything together. As usual, I am so swamped with work that I'm hopelessly behind.

What is it like to be caught up with everything in your life?

It's been over a decade for me and I can't remember.

Were they just being exploitative about the word ‘addictive’ or do they really think teenagers are following addict-patterns of behavior? I’m sure it was just the former, but I’m sort-of waiting for technological addictions to crop up in greater number and outside the realm of WoW players.

The fact that tomorrow I’ll be back in the PacNW just made me pee a little.

  3. sizzle says:

I would not know that feeling of being caught up if it slapped me in the face.

    Looking forward to seeing you!

  4. A. Lewis says:

So, yeah, help me out here…. has it been two or three (or four?) years since we met at TequilaCon? Man, time flies…..I just remember a hotter than hell room, peanut butter sandwiches, and gin and tonic in the closet with no ice. Oh, and a few hot guys.

  5. Sybil Law says:

    Wish I was going! WAH!
Hope you get caught up – you work too hard!

  6. Hilly says:

Oh how I miss Portland 2007…le sigh.

I hope you all have an amazingly fun time and please drink one (or fifteen) for me!

  7. martymankins says:

I am sad that I only will have 1 of those merit badges after this weekend. Wishing I could be there. Drink much and drink often.

  8. Sarah says:

Oh, I need to do laundry. I’m sure people would appreciate if Vahid and I showed up in clean clothes.

  9. Peggy Archer says:

Where’s the Los Angeles badge? We have tequila here, too!

  10. Lynn says:

Can I come to Tequilacon?? I live in Vancouver. I love your blog and have been reading it for years and added the odd comment or two. (not odd as in weird, but odd as in once in a while. Oh wait, maybe they were weird too. Can’t remember!)Where and when is it happening? Can I just come and skulk if not officially invited??

  11. whall says:

Blog Scouts of America… scouting areas of the world to meet, discuss and drink, and distribute Merit Badges.

Sadly, I’m twinzies with Marty this year – only in possession of the right to have one Merit badge thus far.

I’m gonna start the lobbying for next year’s location early.

    Austin, anyone?

  12. muskrat says:

I don’t remember the story behind this event. I think you told me last time you were in Atlanta? Anyway, it looks fun from the pics and posts…maybe next year.
