Shat

Posted on Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Dave! After yet another three hours driving, I'm back home. For a day.

And since I have limited time to get my act together, I am trying very hard to get caught up with work, re-pack my suitcase, read blogs, and sort through the 137 emails jamming my in-box. One of these emails was from somebody saying "mind your own business," which I thought was odd. I mean, usually when I get emails like this, people will cram in all kinds of profanity and at least tell me what it is I said that they didn't like. This one left me clueless.

So I did a little digging, matched the IP address to my server logs, then tracked the referring link.

It seems some journalist guy linked to Blogography in an article he wrote about the awesome new logo for the Milwaukee Admirals hockey team. For reasons unknown, he thinks my name is "Jersey" even though my name and photo are at the top of my sidebar on every page. Turns out both myself and Brandon (from Sports Logo Pundit) are being linked so he can show how there are some people who like the logo despite a vocal group of Milwaukeans who hate it...

Milwaukee Admirals Away Jersey

Oddly enough, the journalist guy DIDN'T link to the entry I wrote about how much I love the logo... which means many people who come here from his article just turn around and leave because they aren't finding anything about the Admirals' new look. The internets are confusing that way.

But this one guy managed to track down the entry, decide that I'm full of crap, then goes to the trouble of telling me to "mind my own business" but doesn't tell me why.

And now I have no idea why I just wasted my valuable time to figure that out.

But I was happy to learn that Milwaukee Admirals merchandise sales have increased 600% (and the season doesn't even start until October). Sweet! I can't wait for my jersey to get here, and will probably buy even more logo crap when I'm back in Milwaukee later this year.

In television news... BETTY F#@%ING WHITE WILL BE ROASTING WILLIAM SHATNER ON THE NEW FRIAR'S CLUB ROAST ON COMEDY CENTRAL ON AUGUST 20th!! Holy crap! BETTY KICKS ASS!

Betty Roasts Shat

Looks like The Shat truly will be hitting the fan on Sunday. Hopefully I'll be home again by then.

I so can’t wait to see that roast!

I’m sure there will be lots of….long….pauses….dramatically….spoken….

  2. Dave2 says:

And lots and lots of cuss-words bleeped out! Even Betty is getting bleeped!

  3. Karl says:

Hell, even *I* might order some of their cool new logofied gear…and I don’t care about the team in the least.

Comedy Central’s roasts in the past have really sucked, but I have to admit I’m probably going to watch this one. It’s Shatner…and Betty Freaking White.

  4. Dave2 says:

I didn’t care about the team… but I do now. I fully plan on trying to take in a game when I’m in town. It’s the perfect venue for showing off my new jersey.

I actually enjoy the roasts. Some are better than others, of course, but they all have brilliant moments which makes me glad I tuned in. Having Betty White joke about having sex with The Shat is worth the price of admission alone.

My favorites are all the old Dean Martin roasts. Too bad they are so ridiculously expensive on DVD.

  5. Brandon says:

Yeah, I couldn’t figure out why he thought your name was “Jersey” either. I think that it is funny how so many classic journalists are being pushed on to the internet kicking and screaming and are unable to use it successfully. This is clearly an example of it.

Anyway, have you read any of the comments on that article? These people are pissed, but their arguments are so flawed that I am having a hard time taking any of it seriously.

And I am sick of these “designers” who say that the design is flawed. Maybe it is flawed, but that’s not the point. It’s still really cool and the old logo stunk. Deal with it and move on.

  6. I too will be watching the roast, not only for Betty, but to watch Andy Dick go all Courtney Love all over the place. I understand he actually BIT a reporter this time. Good times…..

  7. Chanakin says:

    Read his profile:

“Life before cable, Bob spent seven seasons as a reporter and producer of ‘Preps Plus: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel High School Sports Show.'”

I take it he didn’t gradgeate from Columbia.

I’ll make it a point to watch the unedited roast (which will probably run three times later that night).

  8. EDDIE says:

Those two need to have facelift.
Or is it time for another one?

  9. Dave2 says:

Brandon… I do have to give the journalist some credit for using blogs as a source though. So many of them don’t even acknowledge blogs exist, so he’s ahead of the pack in that respect. The simple truth is that ANYBODY can label themselves a “designer” and say they are an expert. So when somebody prefaces their critique with “I’m a designer” I just roll my eyes, because odds are they design a newsletter for a church group or something. I think the six-fold merchandise sales increase says it all… people are totally digging the new look. The logo is fresh, people are responding to it, and a bunch of people whining about it aren’t going to change the fact that it’s a success right out of the gate.

Frances… Apparently he peed on a table in front of the journalist before biting them. He’s either insane, or a comedy genius… I can’t decide which.

Chanakin… Given that even Betty White gets bleeped, you have to wonder if there will be any show left in the edited version!

Eddie… Betty is pushing 85 and looks great! Given how freaky some of the stars are looking with their bad plastic surgery, I hope she doesn’t change a thing. What’s wrong with an 85 year-old woman looking 85?? Betty rocks at any age. 🙂

  10. Kyra says:

I still like the jersey…. Hmmm… Maybe I should get myself one. Although, being this close to canada and in New England might get me lynched wearing it. Would it make good PJ’s?

  11. jenny says:

As a former Milwaukeean, I can say with authority that the new logo is 4,000,000,000x better than the old lame-o one. Skulls and anchors? What’s not to love?!

The only thing that could make it better would be if they had Betty White on the back.

  12. Mike says:

    Dave,

I guess you should consider yourself lucky he didn’t link to your July 31, 2006 or your October 4, 2005 entry.

If he had, you would’ve been identified as “Stoopid” or “Anonypussy”. 😉

Keep up the good work, I really enjoy reading your Blog.

  13. Dave2 says:

Kyra… Everybody loves skeleton pirates! Everybody!! Even hardcore Canadian hockey fans! 🙂

Jenny… If design isn’t pushing the envelope and making some people angry while it’s doing it’s job, then its impact is quite low. The fact that the new Admiral’s logo is kicking ass and getting people talking (good or bad) just shows how effective it is. I would not be the least bit surprised if other sports teams start adopting modern looks for their teams… in fact, the big reaction Milwaukee has gotten almost ensures it. What team WOULDN’T want to be talked about so passionately three months before the season even starts!! Betty kicks ass so hard that she should start her own hockey league!!

Mike… Uhhhh, yeah. Now that I see that, there are quite a few entries that could have been a whole lot worse than “Jersey!” Like this one, for example.

  14. RW says:

Bah! I don’t like any sports team logo made after 1929. Hockey should go back to the Original Six, and I want baseball to go back to two leagues of 8 teams each. Which means the Texas Rangers need to go back to Washington to be the Senators, and the Baltimore Orioles have to go back to… wait… St. Louis to be the Browns… and Cleveland… The Giants go back to New York and the Mets are gone. Then… you take the Doidgers and put them back in Brooklyn and the Braves go back to Milwaukee… No… wait… wait… the Braves have to go back to Boston. Hold it hold it. The Texas Rangers don’t go back to Washington, MINNESOTA goes back to Washington, and the Rangers just disappear. Like the Anaheim Angels. Poof. Seattle has to go back being the Pilots… no wait… they can’t be there… um…

Oh crap. Nice shirt you got there, Jerzy.

  15. Dave2 says:

I just think that pro sports are no longer about the game, but about the money. I’d watch a college game over a pro game any day.

  16. RW says:

You’re right, Dave. Except for the White Sox. They’re pure, you know… heh.

  17. Laurence says:

I am working. And I really need to take a break. So, I think of Blogography (of course)… And I am not (never) disappointed.
Thanks Mike for having reminded “Anonypussy”…
Thanks Dave for this little break !!! (I am laughing again) 😀
We should always think of Blogography when we need to take a break. ALWAYS…

  18. Neil says:

Hey, I’m wearing your shirt as I’m reading this! But I’m afraid of going outside with it on in case I meet that guy who hates you and takes it out on me.

  19. Kyra says:

Wow, did you know the team stuff comes in Pink too? Better hope you ordered the right color! 😉 Aha, found the jersey… OMG it costs HOW MUCH!?!!?!

  20. Eve says:

I can’t wait to see that Roast, it’s going to be great!!!!!
