Hope

Posted on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Dave!I hate new television season.

Because there's always one of those shows that you end up really liking that ends up getting canceled. This makes being a television fan kind of an abusive hobby to have. It doesn't help that a show's fate is determined by the American public at large... most of which have the attention span and interest level of an epileptic hummingbird on crack.

This season my early favorite show is the very funny Raising Hope...

Raising Hope

The show is flawlessly cast and really well-written. This alone is grounds for its cancellation, but it's also kind of goofy and has a little white trash appeal which gives me hope it will stick around for a while...

But I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure there's some shitty reality television show we can't live without that's looking for a time slot.

UPDATE: For those who missed the premiere, you can currently get the episode for FREE on iTunes. It's also available in its entirety at the FOX series website... but who knows for how long.

I’ve heard a couple of people say this is good. Now I’m going to have to watch it. How can you not give Cloris Leachman a shot? She rocks.

  2. I’m not really trying out any new shows this year. Except for The Event. We’ll see about that one.

I was kind of underwhelmed by “The Event” but will watch a few more episodes before I pass judgement. 🙂

“Raising Hope” is actually worth your valuable time if you get bored!

THANK YOU. That’s 3 of us watching the show.

Adam said based on my description of the show it sounded like a pile of shit. (Ok, he didn’t say that but he didn’t think it sounded good based on it. I’m starting to SERIOUSLY question his television taste.)

I love this show. It has a My Name is Earl feel but with MARTHA FUCKING PLIMPTON, WOOT! and CLORIS LEACHMAN, WOOT! so I’m super psyched. Love how they made the mom character go away in the first episode, that still makes me lolz.

    • Dave2 says:

I’ve watched the pilot episode three times now. The subtle brilliance of the performances are off the charts, and every time I see it I find something new. Martha Plimpton is indeed fantastic… the way she can so seamlessly take on her character is almost scary. What really surprises me is the series lead, played by Lucas Neff. The guy has pretty much come out of nowhere and totally nailed it. The entire show hinges on his dopey like-ability and he does not falter. Not once. Even in scenes he’s in where other characters have the spotlight, his mannerisms and reactions are still spot-on.

All I can hope is that the writing maintains the quality of this first episode, because every one of the actors are inhabiting their characters in a way you don’t often see in sit-coms, and any problems aren’t going to come from them.

    Did I miss this premiere?

  5. I think that’s why this season I’m a little apathetic towards new shows. You never know if they’re going to get canceled after one season after you’ve invested your time in it. Hey, look at me, I’m part of the problem by not watching in the first place. Yeah, I’m gonna work on that.

I think I’m more jaded by the weird length of TV seasons than the fact that my favorite shows always get canceled.
