Okay. For everybody who became gravely concerned about Jose from yesterday's entry, I called back his parole officer and let her know that she had left her message at the wrong number. She promised to get ahold of him at school, so I think everything will be okay. Who you should really be concerned about is me, because I still consider it to be a small miracle that I didn't have an immediate nervous breakdown after receiving a voicemail that started out with "this is your parole officer..." Given the state of my memory lately, I fully admit that it took a minute before I realized that it was a wrong number call. Time to start taking ginkgo biloba, I guess.
After a long absence, I've finally manage to get Audio Scrobbler installed on my new Mac Pro and Powerbook. For those not in the know, this is a piece of software that connects you with the wonderful Last.fm music site over the internet. This allows you to keep track of your music listening habits, find other users with music tastes similar to yours, discover new artists with music recommendations and much, much more. It is an amazing service that's totally FREE to use, or you can choose to pay a measly $3 a month for a bunch of cool extra features.
Just for fun, I've created a new "Last.fm Group" for Blogography readers so, if you use the service, feel free to join up...

I love comments! However, all comments are moderated, and won't appear until approved. Are you an abusive troll with nothing to contribute? Don't bother. Selling something? Don't bother. Spam linking? Don't bother.
I’ll try to make my own radio too for my new blog… Thanks, Dave !
I want to join your group too !!!
Since everything in the world revolves around me I am sure this is your nefarious way of getting me to finally hook up my HS to my Mac. Well played, sir. Well played.
Also, I love the fact that The Lightening Seeds are on your list. Random fact: The guy named them The Lightening Seeds after a Prince song lyric. He found out a few years later Prince was actually saying ‘the lightening seas’. Whoops!
Jose is in school and has a parole officer?
Hey, this is super cool! I don’t imagine this software is pc compatible, eh? (ducks to avoid a swat to the head by Dave)
(in my own defense, all of my pc’s have been custom built by my Dad, the Uber Technology Nerd, so I haven’t pumped any money directly into Bill Gates’ pockets)
Laurence… Hopefully you like “Air” which is the only French band I know! 🙂
Frances… I do what I can. 😛
Delmer… Apparently he started his life of crime early?
Diane… You can easily set it up on a Windows machine… they have clients for both Mac and PC. 🙂
First impressions of Last.fm – Nice find Dave…This is fun!
But does anyone else experience an interrupted stream?
I don’t listen to the streams very often… I mostly play local stuff and sync my musical tastes to Last.fm that way… but when I DO play streams, they seem to come through nicely. Only an occasional skip or “rebuffer”.
OK. I don’t get it. Please, be patient with me, I can be a little…slow.
‘I don’t listen to the streams very often…I mostly play local stuff …’
Aren’t they all streams?
I’m skipping like a school girl over here!
🙂 Help me!
I usually listen to music that I have on my computer (i.e. “locally”)… these are tracks that I’ve either ripped from CDs or purchased from the iTunes Music Store. The Last.fm program watches what I listen to and uploads the track names to their servers. This is how they figure out music recommendations and create my personal radio station.
That being said, any time I’ve listened to tracks from Last.fm radio (i.e. “remotely”)… I don’t usually have buffering problems or skips. I was listening just a couple of hours ago and everything played flawlessly. I think problems can arise if your internet connection is bogged down OR if your computer isn’t fast enough to decode the stream. My old laptop would sometimes skip during songs if I were to try and work on stuff while Last.fm was running. 🙁
I get it now. Thanks for explaining locally v.s. remotely.
I see, I’m being “Scrobbled” right now. I see that the option of playing a personal station is for subscribers only.
No doubt my computer is probally bogging down a little. I notice the skipping happened more frequently when I had multiple applications running tasks.
🙂 Better now.
Yay! Another group to join. I wondered where you had gotten to on Last fm. (I still prefer Audioscrobbler, though…)
I still use iScrobbler on my Mac… except it can’t connect to Last.fm radio, so I still use Last.fm from time to time.
Man, I totally forgot about Last.fm, thanks for the reminder. I don´t have a connection at home because the dsl company screwed up and I don´t know when it´ll be back. Resently I had to reinstall my Mac. Ack.
Anyway, I have a bunch of new music to inspire with!
you were so nice to call jose’s PO! I probably would have just let it go because I’m really mean like that. 😀
