Buffalo

Posted on Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

Dave!I really hate it when I get a song stuck in my head.

After seeing Clerks II it's the song Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus, which is a pretty messed up tune to have running through your mind all day long. If you don't recognize the name, you will probably still know of it as the song that "Buffalo Bill" dances to in Silence of the Lambs. Well, in Clerks II you get to see a flawless reenactment by Jason Mewes that's even more disturbing.

Well, not the dance itself... I mean, what guy hasn't put on makeup, dressed up in the skin of dead women, then danced around the house with his penis tucked between his legs? Yeah, we've all been there...

Buffalo Dave

No. What's truly disturbing is that once you start thinking of Buffalo Bill, you think of the actor who portrayed him... Ted Levine. And then you have to freak over how he now plays Lt. Stottlemeyer on the television show Monk. For some reason I find this transition of characters to be very disturbing...

Buffalo Stottlemeyer

I mean, he's obviously a very talented actor to be able to play such diverse roles... but damn. I just can't stop imagining that after Stottlemeyer gets home from a busy day of solving crimes with Mr. Monk, he's dancing around like this just for kicks before bedtime.

And then the image won't leave my mind as I hear... ♬ "Goodbye horses. I'm flying, flying, flying over youuuu..." ♬

Yikes.

For anybody into self-torture, the beautiful Q Lazzarus version of Goodbye Horses isn't for sale on iTunes, but a pretty good cover by the band Psyche is. Listen at your peril.

As if that wasn't enough on my mind...

Star Trek 9

Coming 2008?!? What kind of tease is that? I have to wonder if J.J. Abrams is going to manage to screw up Star Trek as badly as he's trashed Lost and destroyed Alias. He always starts off so strong then crashes and burns. Please have somebody with enough sense to know this cut him loose when things start to slide on yet another good franchise before it goes bad.

Though he has a LONG ways to go before it gets as bad as the totally boring Star Trek: Enterprise and the utterly crappy Star Trek: Voyager.

it took me a long time to get over his voice, when i started watching Monk. which i enjoy very much. i think the thing that saves it is how different he looks.

  2. That illo is the most disturbing one I’ve seen yet. heh

  3. mikey says:

Guess who got a new computer and is starting to catch up with you bloggers. I love the buffalo bill cartoon Dave. I nearly puked!!

  4. When did J.J. Abrams get so hot? Did I not get the memo?

He’s got a long way to prove himself in my book.

BILL MAHER: Okay, New Rule: I don’t need a reminder at the bottom of the TV screen to tell me “You’re watching ‘Lost.'” Somehow, we got through the first 50 years of television knowing what show we were watching by looking at it! If Lucy is on, it’s “Lucy.” If it’s some guys playing football, it’s probably football. Here’s how I know I’m watching “Lost.” I’m bored.

  5. RW says:

You know those times where somebody you know morphs into a deep space lizard and eats your taxi driver? Like, you’re going along in the sunshine when all of a sudden the treees pull themselves out of the ground, put on pink skirts and start to whistle like trains?

I think that just happened again.

  6. adena says:

    Holy cross-dresser!

I didn’t realize it was the same actor! Yeesh!

Now I’m going to have a hard time visualizing that while watching Monk.

BTW….have you watched “Psych” yet? Funny!

(Love the illustration. Poor cartoon Dave is put through a lot, I must say.)

  7. Eve says:

You’re a brave man to post that DaveToon. Hope it doesn’t cause controversy amongst the conservative right.

I didn’t realize that the actor on The Monk was the same who played Buffalo Bill. I haven’t watched the Monk that much, though I really want to. Looks like a good show, and I really like Tony Shalhoub.

And Star Trek, I don’t know if I shouldn’t even start with the Star Trek. I will personally go beat the sh*t out of JJ Adams if he screws that one up. But I must admit, that poster art gave me the chills with the obvious representation of Spock and Kirk in the colors.

  8. Avitable says:

That was a truly disturbing Davetoon. Have you seen the Lotion video? Here’s the link. It’s pertinent to your Buffalo Bill conversation – you may even want to edit your post and put a link to that video – it’s that good.

JJ Abrams always starts off amazing. The Lost pilot, Alias’s first season, MI:3 – all great. It’s once things get going that he fails. (Although let’s not mention the abortion of a treatment he did for Superman). So, there’s a good chance that for a movie, his ideas will kick ass and won’t have time to fizzle. I have faith that the Star Trek movie will be good.

  9. SJ says:

Wow, way to post. Good news, bad news and nightmares all in one.

  10. Hilly says:

I try so hard to forget that he was the “lotion man” except this nagging little voice…oh wait, that would be my husband, likes to come in the room while I am watching Monk and tease me with “put the fucking lotion in the basket” or various versions of that scene. Noooooo (covers my ears).

  11. Karl says:

I had no idea that Stottlemeyer was the same dude from “Lambs.” I’ll never watch “Monk” the same way again.

  12. Bre says:

I can’t begin to tell you how that scene (and how my lovely cousins would re-enact it for us) scarred me for life! But I had no clue it was the same actor… yesh!

  13. Ow! My retinas!!

You should totally use this toon if you have to set up a tip jar.

  14. Eve says:

I’m back to tell you that Liz Hurley has been named the new face of Jordache jeans. New ads will start up in September. Here’s the promo photo: Liz Hurley Jordache

  15. Jeff says:

I’m glad they’re giving Star Trek another shot. It is SUCH a good concept and it needs to be reborn.

2008? What – are they waiting to see what the future holds so they can use it in the screenplay?

  16. apricoco says:

That is the first Davetoon that I can say is truly disturbing. Really. But, it also reminded me of the early years of rod stewart in a strange way. Weird. I think you need more outside human contact.

  17. mojotek says:

Your cartoon of Buffalo Bill had me rolling! I hadn’t even started to read the post, but just by seeing your version of him doing the ol’ tuck and dance, I knew exactly what your post was going to be about.

  18. Kevin says:

As if my Monday morning wasn’t disturbing enough…

  19. ms. sizzle says:

that is the EXACT reason I have trouble watching Ted Levine in anything other than Lambs. he will always be that character to me. his voice is so recognizable- there is no fooling me! i actually just watched Evolution last night and he is in it (with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore).

  20. I saw CLERKS 2 today and thought it was very funny and very moving. I especially liked the dialog between Randall and Elias. In regards to the musical number: it actually worked a lot better than I thought it would considering your displeasure of it.

I thought Rosario Dawson was fantastic…and totally cute. Super cute.

  21. Danielle says:

I discovered your blog yesterday. I read the post on Ted Levine. I started watching the remake of The Hills Have Eyes this morning.

Guess who’s in it? Guess which visual I can’t get out of my head every time he appears on screen?

    Daaammmmnnnn youuuuuuuu.
