Bullet Sunday 163

Posted on Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Dave!w00t! It's the last Bullet Sunday of 2009!

• TQ 2010. The moment we've all been waiting for has come. Jenny has announced the venue for TequilaCon 2010...

TequilaCon 2010 VANCOUVER Announcement!

I am sooooo looking forward to another awesome TequilaCon event!

You can read my wrap-ups for TequilaCon 2009 here... TequilaCon 2008 here... and TequilaCon 2007 here.

• Kindle 2. I bought my mother a "Kindle 2" electronic book from Amazon. I was waiting on Barnes & Noble's "Nook" because it looked a little niftier in pictures, but the reviews were less than stellar so I went back to the Kindle. The device itself is pretty sweet, and a lot easier read from than I had expected. Sure it would be nice if the "e-ink" display had whiter whites for better contrast with the "type" but if you have decent light, it's not bad at all. Bumping up the type size seems to help. In any event, my mother likes it quite a lot, which is all that really matters...

Kindle 2 by Amazon

You can buy new books directly from Kindle easy enough (assuming you have a 3G signal... shopping over EDGE is painfully slow). The good news is that new e-books are released at the same time as the hardcover, but cheaper. As an example, the latest James Patterson release "I, Alex Cross" retails for $27.99, can be bought on Amazon for $18.33 (including tax & shipping), or delivered to your Kindle instantly for $10.79 (including tax). But the best news is that you can get free sample chapters of most books to decide if you want to buy them or not, which makes shopping for Kindle more like shopping at a book store. Overall, I'm impressed. Like most electronic devices, I wish Apple would overhaul the user interface to something more intuitive, but it's all good.

• Totino's. I left work at 3:00 because I was tired and hungry and couldn't stand the thought of sitting at my desk one more minute. Despite a rumbling tummy, nothing really sounded good... EXCEPT A CHEAP-ASS 99¢ PIZZA FROM TOTINO'S!

Totino's Cheese Pizza

So few foods can give you 46% of your daily fat content, 36% of your saturated fat, 6% of your cholesterol, 24% of you carbs, and a whopping 56% of your daily cholesterol requirements... all in one convenient box! Genius!

Annnd... I'm spent. Assuming I don't die from my poor nutritional choices in food, I suppose I'll be back tomorrow.

Totino’s is better than it should be. ๐Ÿ™‚

We got a Sony eReader for Christmas, though I haven’t even looked at it yet to determine which one. I’ve been reading eBooks for about a decade now, and I have no trouble reading them on the iPhone. There are so many advantages to this (self-lit, ubiquitous), that I just don’t see the use case for a separate eReader. I still read phybooks, but mostly just because the book was a gift or wasn’t available as an eBook. Also, it’s good to have for take-offs and landings — that would be a nice coup, if one of the eBook providers would get a deal from the FAA and the airlines to let you continue to use them at those times.

    TequilaCon!!

  2. SFChick74 says:

I’ve had so much candy in the past three days that I might need to check myself into rehab to deal with the sugar withdrawal.

  3. Iron Fist says:

I used to live off those Totino’s Pizzas…and I hate to say it, but I’m sort of jonesing for one now.

  4. Jesus, that pizza is bad for you. Yum!

Dave, I’m stoked on the TC location, and I have to say that your graphic is gorgeous! You are so creative and your work is really beautiful. (I love my Bad Monkey joker print.) I’m super impressed, as usual.

  5. Sarah says:

So now the comments about nook vs. kindle that you had on twitter make sense.

  6. kapgar says:

Be careful on that Kindle claim of books coming out the same time for electronic readers as in hardcover. Not that it matters much, but Sarah Palin’s memoir only came out in hardcover until the New Year when it will be released electronically. I’m sure, pending the results of this little experiment, other books may follow suit.

  7. Avitable says:

I love my Kindle – it really does feel like you’re reading a book. I am contemplating upgrading to the DX, but I’m not quite sure yet.

  8. Steve in NH says:

Is “Cheese, Naturally Flavored” the best they can boast? Is there actually artificial cheese flavor out there now too? Have we come to that? That said, the shit does taste good.

  9. Lisa says:

Mmmm…box pizza. Every once in a while it hits the spot.

I’ve been wanting a Kindle for a while but can’t justify another gadget yet. I use the iPhone Kindle app and I like that a lot, the screen is just small.

  10. Sybil Law says:

Totinos pizza and some tomato soup was one of my “too drunk to deal with anything else” standards back in the day. I figure the soup was slightly healthy. Ish.

  11. martymankins says:

I cannot wait for TC10. Should be awesome. Plus, I’ve never been to Vancouver, so seeing a new city and visiting with online friends will be great.

  12. brandon says:

i’m three books into my kindle dx and am worried how much money i’m going to dump on books in 2010. project gutenberg may delay bankruptcy, but only for so long.

    what’s tequilacon?

  13. josh says:

I LURRRVE “CHEAP-ASS 99ยข PIZZA!” One time two summerz ago, I was cavorting around the Jerzee shore at night and stumbled upon a pizza joint. They were closing and I started whining about how hungry I was, so they gave me three full boxxxez of left over pizza! I then proceeded to eat three pieces and then sit on the curb outside of a bar and drunkenly sell the cold remaining dirrty pieces to dumbo lushez that were stumblin’ out into the street.

With the $10 I made hocking this shit pizza, I was able to go but another two fresh slices @ a pizzeria that was still open! Huzzah!

  14. Jodi says:

Hoooooray! This one I can attend. YAAAAAY!!!

  15. Poppy says:

    Looking forward to TC10.

    I’m getting a nook.

  16. Mocha says:

Dude, just reading about that pizza made me fart something AWFUL. I’m so glad no one knows that. Except you. And everyone who comments after me.

SO bad for you, Dave! SO BAD.

  17. kyle says:

    a) love the graphic for TequilaCon – nice stuff. and as i mentioned on twitter; gotta love a totinos party pizza
