Bullet Sunday 73

Posted on Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Dave!Another Bullet Sunday is upon us, but I'm not ready for the weekend to be over!

• Organizational... This past week Suzy asked me if I still had a souvenir I bought from when we were goofing around in L.A. back in September. I knew I hadn't thrown it away, but couldn't find it. Probably because whenever I get back from a trip, I toss all my souvenirs and crap into one of ten big cardboard boxes I've got piled on top of my shelving units. Disgusted with my lack of organization, I decided to sit down with one box a week until I've organized all my travel stuff. It's hard work, but every once in a while I see something from my past that makes me smile, and that makes it all worthwhile...

Plane Smoking
I wonder how many people know you could once smoke on a plane?

• Time Capsule... Cannot express in mere words how happy I am with my new Apple Time Capsule. Using the built-in wireless connection, it took 22 hours to back up the 142 GB on my laptop. That was a bit harsh, but the incremental updates every hour are very fast. It's constant, unobtrusive, transparent backup that works beautifully. I've lost count of the times that Time Machine has saved my ass both at work and at home. Just one of the hundreds of reasons I'm such an Apple whore.

• Album... 2008 promises to be a very good year for the 80's music that I love. It has been rumored since January that Depeche Mode would start work on their new album this month for release in November (with a tour hopefully following in early 2009). Morten Harket (of a-ha fame) is releasing an English-language album this month in Norway, which will hopefully be available when I'm there next week. The Pet Shop Boys are meeting with producers this month for their upcoming album. Bananarama is gathering material for their next album. Erasure is also rumored to be working on a new pop album very soon now. I have high hopes that New Order will get together this year. Still no word on a Thompson Twins reunion, but I remain optimistic that one day it will happen.

• WWZ... Many thanks to Vahid and Dustin for a brilliant recommendation... World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. Totally awesome book! Now I want the audiobook, because Dustin says the recording has Henry Rollins in it and totally kicks ass! They have it at iTunes, but it costs $18.95! I think I'll see if the library has it to borrow first...

WWZ Approved

Because me loves the zombies...

Corn of the Dead!

And popcorn. Can't have zombies without popcorn!

Speaking of zombies... it's time for me to get back to work.

  1. Robin says:

Why on earth would you keep boarding passes? Especially when you need the room for Legos… 😉

  2. HoosierGirl says:

Hey Dave, You’re on a list on my blog. Please stop by. J.

  3. Suzy says:

I can’t believe you have a non-smoking/smoking ticket jacket. I remember when they put smokers in the back of the plane. Like smoke didn’t travel past the solid Steel curtain separating them from us. And I remember when I smoked and had to sit in the back. LIKE A DOG.

  4. Karl says:

Mmm, the Thompson Twins. We can only hope. I’ll have to check out that zombie book.

  5. Kyra Sutra says:

I’ve met Henry Rollins. He’s pleasant and weird. He gave me a toy phone with just a reciever and a cord. Nothing else. Then, I touched his guitar and he sort of yelled at me. But he forgot about it two minutes later and called me. On the toy phone.

  6. Iron Fist says:

Hey, glad you liked the book! 🙂

  7. Penelope says:

The last time I remember being able to smoke on a plane (yes I know it seems inconceivable now) was 10 years ago flying London to Barcelona. That was the last British Airways route to switch over.
What amazes me even more was that prior to the Kings Cross station fire in 1987, people were allowed to smoke on the Tube! That was always going to be a totally dangerous idea!

  8. kapgar says:

You up for another Chicago DM show?

  9. NYCWD says:

I have that book… but haven’t read it yet.

I also have a thing for popcorn. Buttery popcorn. REALLY buttery popcorn.

I also have the original Zombies Ate My Brain t-shirt… any chances of you turning Zombies Ate My Popcorn into a t-shirt? Triple X would be appreciated 😉

  10. Were you ever a Yazoo fan? If so, are you going to be anywhere near one of their gigs when they play the US later this year?

  11. ChillyWilly says:

Always like your mention of favorite bands, of which Depeche Mode is and has always been one of my top favorites. And any mention of them coming out with a new album.. even when it’s month’s down the road… is something I will follow pretty closely. And of course, any tour they do, I am there. They always make a stop in Salt Lake City.

As for Thompson Twins, a reunion would be nice, but given Tom Bailey’s split with Allanah Currie some years back, I don’t know if that will happen. But hey, if The Police can reunite for a two year tour, I guess anything is possible.

  12. Dave2 says:

Robin… I kind of like to know all the places I’ve been and when I went there. 🙂

    HoosierGirl… Okay!

Suzy… Smoking was being phased out when I first started traveling, but I absolutely remember a few flights I’ve taken where there was smoking on the flight. Seems odd, looking back now, because you could smell it anywhere you went.

Karl… One of my all-time favorite bands after Depeche Mode! There’s not a day goes by that I don’t hope for a Thompson Twins reunion tour!

Kyra… I’m a Rollins fan from waaayyy back. We’re talking BLACK FLAG here! I’ve never met him or seen him in concert, but would love to.

Iron Fist… Oh yes! Loved the book! But you know me and zombie horror!

Penelope… Smoking was so ingrained in our culture for those many years that it’s hard to think of an aspect of society where it wasn’t there. Now, of course, exactly the opposite is true.

    Kapgar… Any time!

Watchdog… BUTTERY popcorn? That would be something, wouldn’t it?

Kevin… I tried for tickets… but the only thing I could get were crap seats in Chicago or LA, so I gave up. Would love to see them, but it doesn’t look like I’ll be able. 🙁

Willy… I’d have thought that Tom and Allanah would still be friends after all they’ve been through together… I’m more worried about them getting Joe Leeway back. 🙁

  13. Hilly Sue says:

Bananarama? Wowee and yay…I used to love them so so much. I’m a little excited that Kevin mentioned Yaz(oo) is playing in the US too.

This is just an exciting day…feel the love!
