Cupcake

Posted on Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Dave!DirecTV sent me a notice that my television channel package price was going to increase. Again.

The bastards.

It seems like they raise their prices every year. Or more. Tired of paying such a huge amount of money every month for something I find less and less entertaining, I was trying to figure out how I could switch to a smaller package and yet still get those few channels I really want.

But it's all terribly confusing, because the package I have now doesn't exist anymore, and I don't know how it compares to what they currently offer. And then there's my local channels which were not included in my old package, but seems to be included with the new packages? And my TiVo charge, which is for a device that's no longer really supported now that DirecTV has their own much shittier DVR service.

I have no frickin' clue how to make sense of DirecTV, and am pretty sure they do that intentionally.

Not knowing what else to do, I decided to cancel HBO so I could save money.

I made the cancellation online while, ironically, I was watching HBO. Much to my surprise, the television went to a black screen almost immediately after I had made the change. DirecTV doesn't mess around.

The bastards.

Here in Washington State, it's time for our presidential caucuses. I voted by mail a week ago, but it's only today that the results are starting to come in. Right now, it looks like Obama is going to take the Democratic slot easily, winning over twice the votes Hillary got.

But it's the Cupcake Caucus at Cupcake Royale that interests me most...

Caucus Cupcakes

Though MY vote would go to my beloved Kate, the best cupcake ever...

Cupcake Royale Kate

Oh great. Now I want a Kate but I can't have one because Cupcake Royale is closed.

And it's not like I can go get one even if they were open, because the mountain passes are also closed.

And I don't have the money for a plane ticket to Seattle because DirecTV is taking it all.

The bastards.

Ironically, Clinton is looking chocolaty and delicious, while Obama is milky white and buttercreamy.

  2. kilax says:

We tried to figure out how we could save on our cable bill too, and those bastards (Comcast in this case) make is so goddamn confusing that we just gave up. 🙁

  3. Hilly Sue says:

It’s Kate! You know what’s funny? Everyone that reads my blog thinks that Kate it MY favorite because they have you and I mixed up…I can see why, given your penis and my vagina and the facial hair thing ;).

I think it’s been well documented that Lemon Drop is actually my fave…then Red Velvet, then Kate.

  4. bogup says:

Unfortunately, the mail-in ballots don’t mean anything in terms of delegates to the Demo Nat’l convention. You probably know that already, but I was surprised when told last week. So I went to the caucuses of hundreds/thousands today and voted for Obama who carried the day in WA state 2 to 1 or more — about the same percentage as my precinct.

  5. Dave2 says:

Amanda… But look how well their little heads show up on contrasting icing! Classic!

Kilax… I still think they design it that way. They create packages which are totally stupid at the cheap end so you’ll be forced to purchased more expensive packages. I hate that.

Hilly… I’ll eat both the Lemon Drop (but toss the candy) and the Red Velvet… but my heart belongs to Kate!

Bogup… Yeah, what a waste of tax dollars to mail out all those ballots. But it is my understanding that they will be counted and looked at, so if there is a wild discrepancy, it could be used as an excuse to change some delegate votes. Obviously, that’s not going to happen this time, but it’s still kind of crazy they bother.

  6. Alexis says:

What? Is that Hillary on a Triple Threat? Nonononono, Obama should be on top of that chocolatey goodness – my favorite candidate and my favorite cupcake in divine harmony. (Great, now I’m craving a Triple Threat, and I don’t have a Cupcake Buddies Date planned until March 20…)

Also, I was so pissed off when I discovered my primary vote wasn’t going to count for anything that I actually got my ass down to the causcus for the first time ever. And now I have been elected a delegate for the county caucus. I’m getting a bit excited now – maybe I’ll make it to Denver? We’ll see….

  7. Yup. Cable, satellite, all sucks.

As for caucuses, I hear Texas’ caucus is next month or something. Finally, we are beginning to see some progress between c*nt (sorry, I mean Hillary) and Osama. crap. you know who I mean.

This Huckabee character is still an enigma to me, since I really only watched the democratic debates. Yeah, I am in Texas, and I watched the democratic debates. Only because they seemed more interesting, and they were media-ized much more than the repubs.

I have no idea which party I am going to vote for, and who. Most likely, democratic. But I am in Dallas. Why even bother? It would make sense if I lived back in Austin, which is the only blue area in Texas. But it’s Dallas. God, why bother with the democratic party?

  8. OMG. Did I write democratics???? did I actually write that? Democrats. Sorry about that.

  9. Karl says:

    Cupcake Royale is closed?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

  10. Wayne says:

I’ll vote for whomever gives me the most cupcakes.

In my mind, I guess that means whatever Republocrat gets the nomination. I think McCain would be tough on spending, and that means more cupcakes (and cable tv) for me! He’s probably the best suited for keeping grubby hands out of my flour and sugar, so to speak.

  11. Dave2 says:

Alexis… The problem is that I don’t consider myself to be a Democrat (or Republican) and so a caucus really wasn’t for me. Oh well, everything turned out fie without me. 🙂

Absurdist… Yes, until the popular vote dictates who wins elections, and we’re stuck in the 18th century with this “electoral college” crap, it’s easy to understand why there is a feeling of frustration and indifference amongst some voters. Maybe one day one vote will actually count as one vote… until that day, we’re stuck with what we have.

Karl… Dude… closed for the DAY… it was 10:00pm when I wrote that!

Wayne… Until he betrays the American people like he did his fellow soldiers that are MIA/POW and still missing. I can’t in good conscience vote for McCain after that… even if it means voting for Hillary Clinton, whom I probably disagree with more on sheer policy points.

  12. Nick Carlton says:

Just stumbled across your blog, read the last three posts you made and about died laughing…So, I subscribed…Now don’t piss me off and suddenly STOP being witty, funny, sincere and easy to read…If you do that I’ll have to tell DirecTV you have a stolen satellite dish tacked illegally to your roof…

    I don’t think they’d like that very much…

    LOL

But anyways, loved the blog, so I guess I’ll be a frequent flyer now on ‘Dave’s Fat Lazy Blogging Bastard Airlines’…

    Have a great day pal,

    Nick

  13. It’s just cruel that you would post those cupcakes when I have no way of getting one even if they were open. I am so giving you sad Indian face right now. For a visual of thet: It’s the same one we all get when someone litters.

  14. sizzle says:

should i ship one to you, stat? i mean…i could!

i hear that there’s a rival cupcake place in wallingford. i have yet to check it out. i shall and will report back to you on my findings.

(the kate is my fav too.)

  15. Absurdist says:

Yup. The electoral college is a bunch of crap and needs to disband completely, posthaste. I am with you on that.

  16. Just make sure they start your HBO credit as of the same time!!!

  17. tori says:

All I can focus on are those cupcakes. It is my dream to someday open a cupcake shop just like that. I need to come to Seattle and try them out for sure!

  18. suze says:

Cable companies are EVIL. It’s like that time I cancelled our movie network package in order to save money and then discovered in doing so we ended our access to UPN. Which meant that I could no longer watch my beloved Veronica Mars. But I couldn’t just get UPN, I had to get the movie network package in order to get UPN.
