Bullet Sunday 38

Posted on Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Dave!Wheee! It's Bullet Sunday as I try to figure out what I'm going to have for dinner tonight.

• We're On Fire! In what's becoming an annual event, the valley is on fire. Again. It was no big shock to find out that fireworks were responsible. Again. About the only surprise here is how dumbasses can't seem to remember from year-to-year that lighting fireworks in the dry brush that surrounds us will start a major fire, potentially burning down a city or two. I mean, WTF? It's EVERY YEAR!!

• Seven Wonders! After a measure of controversy from Egypt, home of the Great Pyramids of Giza (the only surviving Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), the all-new "Seven Wonders of the World" have been revealed... The Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, Brazil's statue of Christ the Redeemer, Peru's Machu Picchu, Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid, The Colosseum in Rome, and India's Taj Mahal. The only one I really question would be Christ the Redeemer which, while both remarkable and beautiful, doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of these marvels. I would have probably dropped it in favor of either Stonehenge, Neuschwanstein Castle, or Angkor Wat. And, naturally, I believe that no list is complete without the Great Pyramids of Giza, TRULY a wonder of the world...

Great Pyramids

• It's Zwinky! I keep seeing these completely obnoxious television commercials for some kind of internet site called "Zwinky." Every time it comes on, I'm scrambling for the remote control so I can stop the horrible screaching... "IT'S ZWINKY! IT'S ZWINKY! IT'S ZWINKY!" Then I sit there dazed and confused trying to figure out what the frak a "Zwinky" is. I tried visiting the web site to find out, but the piece of crap isn't Macintosh compatible. Wikipedia says it's some kind of avatar site tied to a web search toolbar, which sounds lame. I've never been happier that some websites are not Mac compatible.

• Hey Whitey! I am getting tired of watching movies and television shows where all the actors have blindingly white teeth. It's very distracting, and I'm seeing it more and more often. Transformers had actors with embarrassingly white glowing teeth... like ├╝ber-hottie Megan Fox... which very nearly overshadowed the awesome special effects with their unnaturally radiant smiles. Frightening.

• Meet Chicago! Getting some super-sweet RSVPs from cool bloggers planning on making it to the Chicago Meet-Up on August 25th! If any of y'all are planning to come, please email me at dave@blogography.com so we can be sure we reserve enough space. This will also put you on a mailing list so you'll get the most up-to-date info as it happens.

And now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for ice cream! ICE CREAM FOR DINNER! Sweet!

  1. Amanda says:

Megan Fox is almost too good looking. Almost. But damn.. She made that movie enjoyable. And I don’t even like girls like that.

  2. Baak says:

I keep waiting for mirror teeth. Only thing I can think would go beyond pure white.

  3. The Ref, LGC, England says:

I love Bad Monkey dressed up wearing an Egyptian scarf. BM is the coolest customer!

  4. victor says:

Excuse me Dave I’m from Argentina… and I’m curious:
So the frakking thing has totally caught on?

  5. Avitable says:

Did you already say what you thought of Transformers and I missed it?

  6. Bre says:

I’m rather surprised that Stonhenge didn’t make the grade… I really want to know why actually, which certainly isn’t going to happen!

  7. Wayne says:

We have no burning problems from fireworks down here (Austin, TX) – we have the floodiest floody season going on right now and were just lucky enough to have it NOT rain Saturday for 13yr old’s pool party.

And um, I can’t believe you said ICE CREAM for dinner but neglected to share which flavor. Is this really Dave posting? I don’t think Dave would leave something like that out voluntarily.

  8. delmer says:

I would have dropped Christ the Redeemer as well.

If you want to see some classic teeth, fire up Groundhog Day and take a look at Bill Murray’s choppers.

  9. Jeff says:

How did a Pokemon from Peru make the list?

  10. diane says:

Hooray for Macchu Picchu! Except boo, because now it’s going to get even more of an influx from tourists. :p

  11. tori says:

I am re-doing my boys room in an “ancient Egypt” theme because they are obsessed. Your pictures were amazing and I may look at them to help inspire me in what to do/pain/decorate. Just sharing because I was thinking about you…this has absolutely nothing to do with your post…sorry…next time I will try to stay on task.

  12. Suzy says:

I can’t believe Stonehenge didn’t make it in. I would have bagged Christ the Redeemer as well. What no one has mentioned is how now there are 8 wonders of the world, since Giza is still in the mix. Wasn’t this just the online poll and the real list is still being determined?

  13. Hilly says:

I think everyone else has covered things I would want to say EXCEPT….you have a mailing list. A mailing list. How beloved are you?

    ;)

  14. Kirsten says:

There definitely needs to be more sites that aren’t macintosh compatible.
And I see someone above has mentioned the words mailing list? That’s just super rad! Yay!

  15. Damien says:

Hi there. I really like you blog. Great layout. I found out about it through hcg. I’ll be coming back to read more for sure.

  16. Jacki says:

Wow Dave, even our local news mentioned the fires that are out of control in a few states in America. Must be bad.
    Goodluck to the wildlife.

  17. yellojkt says:

I was just at the The Great Wall and it is really impressive. I have never heard of Petra though. Weren’t they some sort of Christian metal band?

  18. Bec says:

Allyn, Kitsap County where my Godmother lives in in the middle of a Red Flag Warning – I am fearing for her (and your) lives – run, run, run for the hills… no wait, not the hills – lakes!!! Run for the lakes!!!

(I’m English, I’m allowed to freak out about mad firey things)

  19. I’m with you on the teeth thing. However, a good thing has come out of America’s obsession with perfect teeth — people are taking better care of their teeth. That is, the people who are lucky enough to have dental insurance and the $$$ to afford it. Sadly, this phenomenon has not caught on in Europe or Asia. At least that I can tell. I see so many with gum disease and missing teeth.

  20. Belinda says:

DANGIT. Must figure way to get to Chicago twice in same 30-day period. dangitdangitdangit

  21. Patty says:

I just came by your town on Sunday on my way back from Chelan and yikes, I did see the fire. Dumb arses setting it!
I had me some ice cream for dinner the other night too! awesome to do once in a while.
