Before he was burned alive for resisting Spanish colonization, a priest asked Chief Hatuey if he would accept Jesus and go to heaven. After thinking a little, Hatuey asked if Spaniards went to heaven. The priest answered yes. The chief then said without hesitation that he did not want to go there but to hell so as not to be where they were and where he would not see such cruel people.
I thought of that today when I saw this...

I am in total agreement with Chief Hatuey. I don't want to be anywhere near these faux "Christians" who use their faith like a weapon and are so needlessly cruel and vicious towards people they don't like.
There is nothing "Christ-like" about them.
Fuck all of them.

I have been trying to work on my faith and have even started going “back” to church, just not the ones I was forced to attend. Two things I have ALWAYS hated: proselytizing and how just about every GD! religion thinks theirs is “the one” and everybody else knows fuck all.
I firmly believe that religion should be about attraction and not promotion. That someone else doesn’t share your expressed religion 100% the way you do is not a reason to try and “bring them around” to your particular dogma. Just live a good life and help…..help, not guide…where you can.
Now I will also admit I’m a hypocrite of sorts and believe parents (or parental figures) should go to church/have religion and basically make their kids go. I think children need that religious education, because I don’t think they can make an appropriately informed decision when they are adults if they don’t have that experience as children. I also know this is a problem in and of itself and far more nuanced than I can ever hope to understand, much less explain like I know what I’m doing. All I can say with conviction is how I feel about this and enact it for myself, which is actually part of the reason I’m trying to go back to church, for a younger generation. I sure as hell (pun intended) don’t expect anyone else to do this, even though I said I believe it.
I hope I don’t come across as unhinged/deranged/really stupid.
I have zero problem with people having a religion… so long as they don’t force it on me or others. I’m kind of the opposite when it comes to kids and church. I think exposing kids to religion before they can really understand it is akin to indoctrination, and it’s far better for people to be mature enough to study religion as young adults when they can grasp the concepts and make up their own mind. But, again, I have zero problem with people raising their kids in their religion… so long as they aren’t forcing it on other kids.
