Merry Christmas to me from AT&T!
When I signed up with them, there was no mention of restrictions on my "Unlimited Data" plan. Now, for the first time ever, I'm approaching 5GB of use, so they're going to throttle my data speed.
No credit for the years of months I've barely used any data at all, I guess...
Whatevs. I've pretty much come to expect treatment like this any more.
It's only surprising now-a-days when you don't get screwed.

I’m on an ‘unlimited’ plan, but I think you have to regularly exceed 20GB/month before you get warnings. I’m lucky if I go much over 2 GB each month though.
Completely frustrating. I received the same text message from AT&T, for the first time ever, last Friday. I’ve been an unlimited data customer since the iPhone’s original release in June of 2007. As I understand it, throttling will likely render my iPhone useless beyond making and receiving phone calls.
Katie got the exact same SMS from AT&T last month. Despite not having come close to even 1.5 GB per month of usage at all in the first five years she had a data plan with them. Asshats. It’s all because Nathan tends to stream shows via the PBS Kids app when we’re out and about. Can’t use my phone for it due to my lack of an unlimited data plan.
Whenever I see anyone with unlimited data plan still, you would think that AT&T would use all of the money they charge the rest of us for a batch of data and not worry about the few that go over 5gb a month. The idea that unlimited is technically unlimited, just at a slower speed after a certain threshold, is so misleading. I have 30gb a month now, and I do use it (tethered is my friend), but it’s not cheap.
