Dave! After a month (plus) with my iPhone 6 (not plus) I don't have much to say.

Do I like it? Oh yes. In fact, there are many things I love about it. Starting with Apple Pay, which is pretty much the bomb (when and where you can use it, that is).

There are, of course, things I'm not thrilled about as well. Mostly minor stuff that's not worth mentioning.

And one big thing that is. Which would be that it's too dang big!

The size of the 5s was perfect. It fit really well in my hand. It was super easy to operate one-handed. Typing on it was a joy.

The size of the 6 is oafish, clutzy, and difficult to mange... even with two hands... even with Apple's "Reachability" feature (double-touching the home button will drop the screen down in reach of your thumb). I can't even fathom how much worse the 6+ would be.

Apparently nobody else can either. The 6 is outselling the 6+ three-to-one. Or perhaps six-to-one, depending on who you want to believe.

I just hope this means Apple will give us an option to go down a size with the iPhone 7.

Totally agree – when I had an iPhone 6 to try for a few days it was great but just. too. big. I hope there’ll be an iPhone 7 Mini or something that has the same internals squashed into the 5S form factor.

Comparison wise, taking my 5s into the Apple Store (since I only know one person who has the 6 and he lives in Austin, TX – everyone else I know that has a 6-level iPhone has the 6 Plus) and placing it on top of the 6, the size doesn’t seem overly bigger. I mean, it’s noticeable in your hands when I hold both – one in each. It’s bigger, but the thinner size helps a lot. Granted, this could all change once I would get a case on the 6. But I actually look forward to upgrading next year (perhaps the 6s will fix the protruding camera, which thank goodness they didn’t copy over to the iPad Air 2).

Given all that, I’ve not been able to pocket a 6 yet. The 5s is the perfect size for the pocket and I don’t mind how well it fits most places – pants, jeans, shorts, jackets. So that could be an issue. I need to seek out others who have the 6 here locally that don’t mind me pocket testing with their phone.

I love the speed and features of my iPhone 6 but like you, I’m really struggling with the size of it. I usually don’t put a case on my iPhones but I had to put one on my iPhone 6 because it always feels like I’m going to drop it. It’s slippery to begin with, but then my usual one-handed operation just feels awkward.

While folks were saying that Apple should really make a bigger phone, I’m thinking that some folks are finding that bigger doesn’t always equal better. I’m really happy I didn’t go with the iPhone 6 Plus. I haven’t seen many of them in the wild at all.

The size of my 6 hasn’t bothered me as much as I had expected. When it does, it’s often attributable to app design issues, such as the lack of swipe-back-from-edge functionality requiring clicking on the button/text in the top left corner. I sometimes use the Reachability feature for accessing the top-center or top-right, but mostly, I’ve adapted my grip to allow reaching those, just like I had to adjust my grip when I moved from the 4 to the 5 to be able to reach the top.

That being said, if a slightly smaller 7 comes out without any major feature sacrifices, I’ll seriously consider it.

As for Pay, I wish it would give a better error than “Hold iPhone closer to reader” when the reader isn’t actually going to work. I’ve also had it appear to work from the iPhone but not actually work for the register. Repeating the process has worked in those instances, and no duplicate charges have occurred.
