Worser

Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Dave!Well... I woke up with my back feeling far worse than it was yesterday. This really blows, because I've got a long drive followed by a long flight tomorrow. Guess I'll be spending my day mostly medicated. Yay.

Of course I still haven't packed a suitcase. Given the excruciating pain throbbing in my lower back, it's probably a better use of my time to lay in bed with a heating pad all night. Which means I'll be packing when I get up in the morning. And doesn't that sound like a bucket-full of laughs and good times.

The problem with laying as still as possible for hours-on-end is that there's not much else to do except think. The even bigger problem is the stupid crap I think about, most of which makes me want to scream my head off.

Things like... how fucking bat-shit-crazy is it that the same people who freaked out and thought armageddon was nigh because two dudes kissed on Glee are all gung-ho to see photos of Osama Bin Laden with his head blown off? I mean, seriously... a sign of love and affection between two people can't be shown on television because its paramount to a complete breakdown of society if they both have a penis... HOWEVER an image of graphic violence and horror is perfectly okay. In fact, let's make popcorn and invite the neighbors over the watch!

DAVETOON: Lil' Dave Laying Down and Screaming
DAVETOON: Bad Monkey peeks up behind Lil' Dave to see what the fuss is about.

And it only gets worse from there.

I long for those magical days of yore when I was too busy to think such horrible nonsense.

The best I can wish for now is that I fall asleep soon.

Hopefully before I start thinking about how dumb-fuck asshole Minnesota House Majority Leader Matt Dean called beloved author Neil Gaiman a "pencil-necked weasel" that he "hated" because he's too damn stupid to bother getting all the facts before resorting to name-calling and accusations of stealing. What a worthless piece of shit. Is it too much to ask that ANY of our elected officials use even a half of their brain before they open their idiot mouths?

Dang. Now I'll never get to sleep...

I DO hate to see you suffer. I REALLY do. Maybe it’s the time for you to let go of what makes you scream your head off! These people won’t stop hurting others. It’s in their blood, which makes their habits incorrigible! Again I hope you’re feeling better!

  2. Mel says:

So, pain notwithstanding, the best thing you can do is to move and work through the pain. Which is probably going to be a challenge with long drive and long flight. Still, the longer you spend lying down or immobile with back pain, the longer it’s going to take to recover.

It’s too bad methocarbamol isn’t OTC here like it is in Canada, but trying some lower back stretches may help. Child’s pose is a good one if you have the space to do it, but my usual favorite if I tweak my back a bit during exercise is just lying on my back and pulling my knees to my chest.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I read about that piece of shit Matt Dean yesterday on Neil’s blog. Douchebags…they are all around us.

  5. I usually do the hot shower, Icy/hot, and acetaminophen for when I throw my back out in a 5 girl pile up. As for the other stuff, I just have no nice words for any of it. Best to keep my mouth shut lest I offend the tiny minds that actually came up with that shit. Hope you feel better!!

  6. Tug says:

Ice. Get rid of the heating pad, your muscles are pissed off & the heat aggravates them more. Ice pack 20 minutes on, 20 off…but when mine’s real bad I just leave it on. Hope you feel better soon.

  7. Karl says:

Here’s to your back healing in time for your flight. I’d say I feel your pain, but then I don’t really *want* to feel it.

And Matt Dean is a moron.

  8. Megan says:

    Feel better soon!

  9. Cyndy says:

I’ve had a bad back for 20 years. I herniated a disk a long time ago that sent me to the hospital for a week. I learned nothing from the doctors, but a lot from a physical therapist. My advise…if you are having a disk issue and not a muscle issue, be careful with the heat. You may be causing swelling…ice might be better. Try and lay face down on the floor for 20 minutes on your stomach. It’ll hurt but once you get up you’ll feel a lot better…this pushes the goo between your spine pieces back in place. If this works you will have to do it often for awhile. Get out and walk around the block, even though you look like someone pushed a long pole up in a sensative space…it’ll do you a lot better than laying in bed…feels like poo though.
Good luck with the trip…take ice and a thermal pad with you.

  10. RW says:

I am actually counting on the day when the redneck peckerwood hick brains from the far provinces are back in power again. It’s hard to be a writer of edgy fiction when the progressives are in office because everybody’s like “meh.” But when we have God-fearing, flag-waving America-first religious morons running the show I’m suddenly relevant again.

    So there is that.

  11. Peggy Archer says:

I know you’re in the middle of redneckistan, but have you thought about accupuncture? It works very well for back pain.

So do massive doses of Advil, but if you do that you can’t drink any booze.
