Dave!So TequilaCon 2009 is in Santa Fe.

To read about how that came about, Brandon has a story up on his blog.

But Brandon has a tendency to whitewash the more questionable aspects when it comes to recounting events like this, so I thought that I would fill in a few of the gory details that he's left out... BULLET STYLE!!

• Planning. I've already blogged about how Jenny summoned the TequilaCon Committee to Chicago for a pre-planning meeting. Only three of us were foolish enough to actually go... myself, Vahid, and Brandon. What I didn't mention is that Jenny showed up dressed in sun-goddess robes and insisted that we address her as "High Priestess Many Goats."

• Whiteboard. When I posted a picture of Brandon Photographing the Official TequilaCon Whiteboard, I blurred out the cities listed...

Brandon photographs the White Board

But now all can be revealed. Here are the eleven cities ultimately considered after hours of debate...

The Official TequilaCon Whiteboard

After some alcohol, Pac-Mac, and discussion, the final three locations were narrowed down to Vancouver BC, Las Vegas, and Santa Fe. After some alcohol, Pac-Mac, and a lot more discussion, Vancouver was axed because of passport requirements. That left Las Vegas and Santa Fe. After some alcohol, Pac-Man, SO much money, and a spinning whiskey bottle, High Priestess Many Goats declared Santa Fe the host city for TequilaCon 2009...

High Priestess Many Goats and Santa Fe

This is probably for the best, because Santa Fe feels more like a TequilaCon city, whereas Vegas is kind of obvious and commercialized.

• Drunken. When Brandon says that he put on the Sometimes Rabbit head and tried to get Jenny's cat drunk, it sounds like a clever allegory for setting aside the folly of one's youth and embracing the responsibilities of adulthood... but was, in fact, putting on the Sometimes Rabbit head and trying to get Jenny's cat drunk...

Brandon and the Drunk Cat

That's three bullets, which is probably three too many, so I guess that's all for today. Sometime in February, I'm guessing a venue in Santa Fe will be decided upon, and the official details will be posted so everybody can make their travel and lodging arrangements. In the meanwhile I urge you to drop by Jenny's blog if you are interested in the event so she can put you on the Official TequilaCon 2009 Mailing List...

Santa Fe 25 April 2009

I've decided I don't want to be on the Official Mailing List. That way I can crash the party unannounced.

Oh. My. Golly. That badge is so dang beautiful. I hope it’s for reals, because I adore the sunsetsaguarosilhouette.

  2. martymankins says:

So it really was down to Santa Fe and Las Vegas…. I think Santa Fe will come to be known as a great choice. Anyone can always go to Vegas.

  3. jenny says:

I can’t believe you were able to capture a photo of me during my vision quest. Many have tried. All have failed.

I also can’t believe Brandon had SO much money. Let’s hope he saves some of it for Santa Fe. YIPPEE!

  4. martymankins says:

BTW, please say there will be all new lanyards for us TC09 attendees.

  5. Dave2 says:

Yes, there will be lanyards… how could there be TequilaCon without the lanyards?

But the image above is just a placeholder until plans are made and the preliminary design concepts for the TequilaCon 2009 event poster have been approved by Jenny. I can’t tell you what it’s going to look like, but examining past event posters may offer a hint…

  6. Sarah says:

I hope I can go but that weekend is the weekend before finals. Damn school gets in the way of everything.

  7. Brandon says:

I was really hoping for TequilaCon Cashmere myself. Aplets and Cotlets for everybody!

  8. brandon says:

This is embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t know how expensive child support for kittens was. LESSON LEARNED.

(but you know, also worth every penny)

  9. whall says:

Wow, Austin was on the list?!?!?! that’s almost as good as Wasillilliilllillillllah.

  10. yellojkt says:

Damn. DC/Baltimore didn’t even make the short list. Skunked again.

  11. Avitable says:

I’m glad you guys ended up with Santa Fe, because other than Austin, all of those cities just feel too big/wrong for TC.

  12. really looking forward to going again. i had a blast in philly. hope work cooperates! (so far it looks like my work calendar is clear for the date.)

  13. When the Ty-man saw Wasilla at the bottom of the city list, he declared, “I’d start a blog if TequilaCon was going to be there!” Bless my husband’s bleeding Republican heart. He’s such a dork for Sarah Palin.

I’m so very glad you guys picked Santa Fe because I have cousins who live there! Now I can kill two birds with one stone! Now, to visit them before the festivities or after, when I’m hungover? Hmmmm…

  14. SJ says:

Oh yeah, huh? TEQUILACon would indicate there should be a *bottle* on the badge. Duh. Can’t wait to see the final design!

  15. apricoco says:

so, um.. why was Miami ruled out? It would have been my ONE opportunity to up my DaveNumber!

  16. Dave2 says:

Since we were just on the East Coast for TQ2008, all of East Coast State’s cities were axed. Boston was the next to go. Atlanta was followed soon after, though Savannah stayed up for a while because it seems like such a beautiful fit for the TequilaCon vibe.

It was then a battle between The South (New Orleans, Savannah) and the Southwest (Vegas, Santa Fe). Vancouver held on so long because there was a desire to see TequilaCon go international. Once the discussion kept coming back to Vegas and Santa Fe, that was the end of it.

  17. Vancouver was axed because of passports? Are they finally enforcing that now? We’re supposed to be going to Seattle in the spring. Damn you bin Laden!!!

  18. Dave2 says:

Not yet… though back when we were making the decision, there was talk that it was likely US Passports were going to start being required at some point. Not necessarily for entering Canada, but for returning home.

  19. Jodi says:

oh man, I wish it had been Vancouver.

  20. A Lewis says:

Wasilla would have been my choice. For shits and giggles.

  21. martymankins says:

I figured the lanyard graphic would be a Tequila bottle…. but which one this year is where the suspense lies. Patron? Hornitos?

  22. Iron Fist says:

It’s a good thing you cropped the photo so it didn’t show #12 – Rio de Janeiro.

  23. Ren says:

I’m glad Santa Fe beat out Austin as I’d rather make a trip out of it.

  24. NYCWD says:

It’s interesting to see “behind the scenes” of the decision making process. Specifically with the bunny head.

I think Santa Fe is great choice both for the vibe and for the obvious abundance of the iconic beverage that HAS to be occurring in a place called New Mexico.

Really, only Cancun would have been closer.

And I like my Bill of Rights.

  25. kapgar says:

New Orleans would be so cool. Well, not in terms of temperature, but you get my meaning.

  26. Tee Poole says:

Santa Fe, huh? Maybe I’ll have to stop by this year.
