Bullet Sunday 52

Posted on Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Dave!w00t! This wraps up one year of Bullet Sunday here at Blogography! I started it as a way to post about all the little things that happen during my week that aren't big enough to merit an entry of their own. It was a good plan, but rather than keeping track of little things throughout the week, I always end up waiting until the last minute where I have to struggle to think up something. Oh well. I've grown to like Bullet Sunday, so I guess it will be sticking around.

• Sauce! While I was shopping for ingredients to make burritos last night, I was in the Mexican food aisle listening to a woman yell at her kid for picking up a bottle of hot sauce. "Put that back! We can get that for free at Taco Bell!" she says. I can't help but wonder if she gets her ketchup from McDonalds.

• Aquaman! A TV show I've always wanted to see but never got around to was the Aquaman pilot (made by the same people responsible for Smallville.) Last night I couldn't sleep and finally got around to seeing it. Much to my surprise, it was actually pretty good! Now I'm sad that the show was never picked up for a series... it may not have been entirely faithful to the comic book, but was pretty entertaining and had real potential.

The cool thing about the show is that Aquaman doesn't take things too seriously. He's your average slacker beach-bum that just happens to be able to breath underwater, swim fast, and talk to fish. But when when the shit hits the fan, he's kind of a bad-ass too... like stabbing evil harpy bitches in the head! Sweet! I also like that there are subtle nods to the source material... like Aquaman wearing Orange and Green like in the comic book. If you want to check it out, you can buy it at iTunes for $1.99 or watch it on Joost for free.

• Alpha Flight! Speaking of comics... when I was in Spokane last week, I picked up the two trade paperbacks collecting the "all new, all different" Alpha Flight series that Marvel released in 2004. Despite the fact that it was widely criticized and cancelled after only 12 issues, I really liked the series, and am glad to have the trades to read again. Compared to some of the crappy books that are being released today, the imagination and clever dialogue shown in Alpha Flight is a breath of fresh air... even though it's three years old...

Alphaflight

• Spam of the Day! "Start a new life with beautiful large and firm breasts!" — Hmmm... while that most certainly would be the start of a new life for me, I think I'll pass. And while it might be funny when a guy gets sent an email for breast enlargement, I can't help but wonder if these spamming assholes even give a shit when their unsolicited, unwanted crap lands in the inbox of a woman who has had to undergo a mastectomy or other breast-related trauma? I long for the day that spammers are held accountable for their abhorrent actions, and finally have to face the consequences for the evil that they do.

• Quiz! Yesterday's "How well do you know Dave?" quiz is still open. I hope to dish out the answers tomorrow, but may have to wait until Tuesday if my Monday gets too crazy.

And just like that, one year of Bullet Sunday comes to a close.

I didn’t even know they tried an Aquaman series. Is it the same guy that plays him on Smallville (I can’t tell from the pics)?

I used to love Alpha Flight, the original. I didn’t know they did a new one.

    See, I don’t know much, that’s why I haven’t taken the quiz.

Re: the woman at the grocery store.
    Hot sauce from Taco Bell
    Ketchup from McDonalds
    Sugar and cream from Starbucks
    Napkins from Burger King
    WiFi from Tully’s Coffee
    Free hor douvres from Costco

    What a country!
The long ago publication by Jerry Rubin, “Steal this Book” listed every free and not-so-free scam to live “free” and take everything that is offered.

  3. Hilly says:

I love Justin Hartley and wish that show would have made it, although at least it freed him up to play the Green Arrow on Smallville.

Happy One Year Bullet Thingy McJingy from your fellow insomniac :)~

  4. kilax says:

I know people like that woman at the grocery store. How embarrassing.

  5. webmiztris says:

Taco Bell lady has a point though. If you saw my how many packets of Taco Bell mild and fire sauce are invading my fridge, you would understand…LOL

  6. ChillyWilly says:

Aquaman?? This was a show and it never got picked up? Aquaman was my favorite of the Justice League. I read the comics, watched the animated show years back and just about anything else that I could find.

It looks like it was last summer when it was made. Found the pilot on iTunes. I will have to download this. I must have missed this (and I sure you did a blog post on it, too)

  7. Wayne says:

I want them to bring Automan back.

With larger and firmer breasts this time, please.

  8. serap says:

Happy one year bulletaversary… I actually know an older gentleman, who, when he first got a computer and an e-mail address, got some spam about enlarging his penis/ impotence drugs and was really upset, as he actually was suffering from impotence and had recently worked up the courage to talk to his doctor about it. He really thought someone had been gossiping about him and was very embarrassed. It made me so angry that these idiots had upset someone in that way, about such a sensitive issue.

  9. Carl says:

Dude, one time I went to Taco Bell and the woman in drive thru gave me my 10 tacos like I ordered, but 3/4 of the bag was FULL of all kinds of hot sauce packets. I felt like I’d won the lottery or something.

  10. tori says:

I can’t even explain how much it warmed my heart when the thought crossed your mind that that spam might make someone sad. That right there sums up why I love reading you. You are such an amazing person (from what I read of you anyway…maybe in real life you are different, but somehow I doubt it).

I had cancer about two years ago and it makes me a little sick each time I get some email that tells me to buy pink ribbon items to “help fight cancer”.

  11. Robert says:

Hmmmm…I dunno about an Aquaman series. Looks to me to be a gratuitous effort to just get a prettyboy, who looks like a gay porn actor, to get shirtless….and wet…on a weekly basis.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 😛

  12. Dave2 says:

The guy who plays Aquaman (Justin Hartley) is married to hottie Lindsay Korman and has a kid… so I dunno about a gay porn career. But the show itself was actually really good, and I dunno how he can avoid being wet and shirtless considering Aquaman takes place in the water?

  13. Avitable says:

They actually killed off Alpha Flight during “House of M”, and there’s a new one with almost none of the new characters.

  14. sue says:

Happy One Year Annivesary, bullet Sunday… 😉

  15. Zhu says:

“Put that back! We can get that for free at Taco Bell!” she says. I can’t help but wonder if she gets her ketchup from McDonalds.”

As scary – and cheap – as it sounds… she probably does. I should listen the people more in public places, I like this one 😉

  16. Bre says:

I’m actually a bit glad that men are getting breast enhancement emails – I’ve been getting “Enlarge your penis” emails for YEARS and it’s time you all felt my pain.
