Portlandia

Posted on Friday, March 9th, 2007

Dave! With an hour before my connecting flight to Portland, I decide to grab something to eat. Wandering down the D Concourse of SeaTac, I spot a bagel shop and decide that sounds like a great lunch. I was, of course, wrong. While the "bagel" was bread-like and had a hole in the middle, it could hardly be called a bagel. For the millionth time I wonder why shit like this can legally be called a bagel when, in fact, it is not. There are no bagels outside of New York City.

After choking down as much of my "bagel" as I can manage, I'm off to find a restroom. I don't actually have to go, but figure I would go anyway as a precautionary measure. The last thing I want to do is walk up to Hilly in Portland all Forrest Gump-like and have my first words be "I gots tuh go pee."

Today is pre-TequilaCon craziness with the actual event happening tomorrow.

And that's all I gots to say about that.

Because it's 1:00am and tomorrow I want pancakes.

Sorry. I thought about you when I read the news. Don’t pig out on artificial bagels.

  2. cce says:

Never, never eat anything in an airport that you didn’t bring yourself. That’s my advice anyhow, after several incidents involving chicken salad sandwiches and even an innocuous slice of pizza. Don’t worry, you won’t have contracted any parasites that a little Tequila can’t take care of.
    Cheers!

  3. ajooja says:

You’re better off with an over-processed Lender’s bagel out of a bag than you are with a random “gormet” bagel.

I hope you guys have a great time tomorrow.

  4. Laurence says:

    Have a Great Tequilacon !!!

    P.S. I want to taste a Bagel from New York !!! 🙂

  5. ms. sizzle says:

my friend from NY says the SAME thing about bagels. i’ve really got to get myself to NY and test this out.

i am totally going to meet you in a couple hours! yay! 🙂

  6. Karl says:

Mmm, pancakes. I’m starving. Why am I up so bloody early?

  7. Stacey says:

    Now I want a bagel.

    Have fun at TequilaCon!

  8. Hilly says:

Mmmmmm, the orgasmic breakfast of champions!

  9. RW says:

Too bad you’re going to miss GlenlivetCon, which will be held at my house. probably in the family room. By the TV. Poor you…

  10. Mooselet says:

There are times I’d kill for a real bagel. If I could find a way for them to survive the trip and get past customs, I’d be a very happy girl.

  11. margalit says:

There certainly ARE great bagels outside of NYC. You just don’t know where to look. FInd a member of the tribe in the know, and you’ll be able to get a great bagel in Boston (Kupels), Montreal, Baltimore, and Philly. Even New Jersey has good bagels. Just never go to a Noahs because they suck, or Finagle a Bagel, or any of the other chains. They’re not good. Period.
