Brain

Posted on Thursday, March 10th, 2005

Dave!Well, it would appear that I am going to have to turn comment moderation ON again, despite the fact that the new "MTKeystrokes" plugin is doing an amazing job of discarding comment spam from spam-bots. Last night I received a comment that was obviously trying to sell something. Sure it was hand-typed, and sure it related to my entry, but I have never allowed people to whore their wares here and I don't intend to start now. The only person allowed to be a whore here is me, and I don't like the competition. Get your own blog if you want to sell something.

It kind of makes me wish that I was able to clone my brain and hook it up to my blog so that it could approve and reject comments without me having to bother...

Comment-A-Tron 3000

Of course, I think the massive genius of my clone brain would tire of such a mundane chore 24-7, and would probably go mad and become an evil brain monster. An evil brain monster to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!! MOOWAAAHHH HA HA HAAAA!

Movie Quotable of the Day: "Ladies and gentlemen, I can envision a day when the brains of brilliant men can be kept alive in the bodies of dumb people..."
Yesterday's Answer: French Kiss (1995) with Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan.

The Man with Two Brains. Classic Steve Martin.

But.. what were they trying to sell? Was is something nifty, like plastic fish?

As for evil brains, are you using MTBlacklist? (I know, I could scroll through your old posts and look, but hey, I just woke up and I’m lazy.)

It has been working pretty good for me. Mmm, friend’s posts are auto-approved and then spammy ones are held for approval.

The Comment-A-Tron system goes on-line March 15th, 2005. Human decisions are removed from comment spam defense. Comment-A-Tron begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, March 29th. In a panic, Dave tries to pull the plug…

  3. Richard says:

Incidentally, if I preview a comment and then post it without making further modifications, it seems to get blocked by your new plugin. I think this is because the preview takes me to a new page, but there are then no keystrokes logged against the comment field on that new page before posting.

They were selling “natural” remedies for headaches and allergies. Of course, I’m always looking for the “mad-scientist” alternative to “natural” so it wasn’t my cup of tea anyway.

“The Man with Two Brains” had a second quote which is one of my all-time favorites: “I don’t know. I’ve always just loved to kill. I really enjoyed it. But then I got famous, and it’s just too hard for me. And so many witnesses. I mean, everybody recognized me. I couldn’t even work anymore. I’d hear, ‘Who’s that lurking over there? Isn’t that Merv Griffin?’ So I came to Europe to kill, and it’s really worked out very well for me.”

Wait a second… Comment-A-Tron would be powered by a clone of MY BRAIN! Wouldn’t that make it ALREADY SELF-AWARE when it goes online? Or are you implying that I am not self-aware? I blog, therefor I am, baby!!

Oog. I’ll have to investigate that preview problem… I must say that I’m loving MTKeystrokes too much to get rid of it, so there’s got to be a way to fix that (crossing fingers).

I love comments! However, all comments are moderated, and won't appear until approved. Are you an abusive troll with nothing to contribute? Don't bother. Selling something? Don't bother. Spam linking? Don't bother.
PLEASE NOTE: My comment-spam protection requires JavaScript... if you have it turned off or are using a mobile device without JavaScript, commenting won't work. Sorry.
