When I was younger, I was afflicted with migraine headaches of crippling magnitudes. The worst part was never the actual mind-splitting headache, but instead the butt-numbing demerol shots I would have to take when the pain got to be too much. The shots had nauseating side-effects that could last for a week or more. So it was always a toss-up as to whether I choose the nausea from pain or worse nausea from medication. Usually I would just ride it out.
But then I became a vegetarian, started meditating, and migraines became a thing of the past. Or maybe I just outgrew them... I don't really know. Now it is a rare event indeed when I am stricken, and I consider myself very fortunate that I get a 2-3 year reprieve between episodes. They are usually triggered by a physical event, like throwing my back out or getting food poisoning.
Well, on the flight back from Europe, I must have slept wrong on my neck and it ended up all jacked-up. The migraine followed while driving home in crap weather and concentrating on finding the road for four hours. It's now two days later, and it's still with me. So now the debate rages on... go get the shot in the ass and be throwing up the rest of the week... or hope it goes away in the next day or two. In any event, the longer I wait, the longer I have to feel like this every minute of the day and night:
Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Man, I really hate it when I get migraine. It happens about 2-3 times a year, mostly due to swift changes in weather (very low pressure). My remedy is simply to sleep it off – I don’t have much of a choice, actually, because I’m oversensitive to lights and sounds and can’t concentrate on anything.
It takes about a day to sleep it off, but the day after is usually really slow – the body is exhausted from the healing the day before…
Hope you get well soon and don’t have to go get that shot.
Get well soon mate.
Kind of caught between a rock and a hard place aren’t you? I hope it fixes itself….sorry you feel bad. Migraines (I have had three in my lifetime, the kind where your sight goes weird?) suck ass.
So sorry about your migraine, but I couldn’t resist giving a big second to your comments about vegetarianism. When I went veg, I had a big surge in energy, and now I hardly ever get colds, or anything else. I know it’s not for everyone, but it certainly worked for me.
Get well soon!
Hve you tried Imitrex sp?! My aunt has had them all her life, and it has been a wonder drug.
Hope you are well soon, hate to think of you in pain.
I get migraine headaches so bad that I actually get nauseated and sick to my stomach, but Imitrex or Axert knock them right out. You should definitely hit your doctor up for some samples.
Unfortunately, I cannot take Imitrex and other drugs like it. About the only thing available to me is Demerol, which gives me worse nausea than I get from the migraines. Since I have to go to work, Demerol is a worst-case scenario (since I can’t work while throwing up on the keyboard).
