After spending all night trying to get the revisions to my Hard Rock Cafe web site working under CSS, I'm giving up. I get things working under Apple's Safari browser with no problem. I move on to the Opera browser and, again, no problem. Then I try it with FireFox and get it working with only a few adjustments. Then of course I have to move on to Microsoft Internet Explorer... five hours later, I have no idea how to make it work. IE sucks ass. Microsoft sucks ass. What good is it to have web standards when the world's most popular web browser ignores them completely? So now I'm going to end up with some sort of bizarre mix of both CSS and tables in order to get it to display the way I want. Oh how I hate Microsoft' shitty software.

yes microsoft/ie is completely evil.. unfortunately that’s what 86% of the internet uses.. tragic really.. http://www.med.unsw.edu.au/logs/LogReports/WWW.MED/2003-Jan-Dec/index_07_b.htm#TopBrowserstc for hits to the IIS server at work
The sad news is that CSS allows amazing control over the look of a web site with very little excess code… yet because Microsoft just doesn’t care enough to become standards-compliant, I am forced to clutter up my site with tons of extra code for tables and transparent GIFs that I shouldn’t even need. But sadly, as you say, since close to 90% of the people visiting are going to be doing so with their dumbass IE browser, what choice do I have? Evil, evil Microsoft.
evil evil .. !
for years and years I refused to use it – I used Netscape 3 until probably two years ago! Unfortunately later versions of netscape were just to slow, and by the time any decent sort of replacement came around I was well and truly used to using IE. So yes, I’ve sold my soul to the devil.. sorry .. 🙂
Have you tried FireFox? It’s quite nice, and is available for Windows. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
