Shoes

Posted on Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Dave! When I woke up and looked out the window this morning it was snowing. This was disappointing, because I was hoping to participate in One Day Without Shoes (helping to remind people of kids living in poverty who can't afford footwear). HELPFUL HINT TO ORGANIZERS: Might have been a good idea to pick a date closer to summer so those living in North North America can participate.

And so my day was already off to a bad start with the weather, but that wasn't good enough. Irony had to rear its ugly head. My body decided to have an angioedema attack for the second day in a row, where the bottoms of my feet had swollen so badly that getting my feet into shoes was a painful prospect. So, to sum things up...

  • Didn't want to wear shoes.
  • Had to wear shoes.
  • Couldn't wear shoes.
  • But still really had to wear shoes...

And so I overdosed on antihistamines (again) which ended up giving me an upset stomach, which resulted in me puking my guts out, which meant I ended up having to take more antihistamines, which made me sleepy, which meant I had to drink Red Bull, which caused me to have an upset stomach. And so on.

My entire day ended up being a vicious circle of cause and effect.

And here at the end of my day, it's no different. The never-ending battle to stay healthy enough to work while staying awake enough not to drop into a coma has taken its toll, and I'm pretty much dead. Whether I'm dead enough to get a decent night's sleep remains to be seen. But I'm hopeful.

Nothing like a good coma sleep to cure all that ails you is what I say. Here’s to hoping you get it.

  2. Zuhdi Abdelkarim says:

Damn, hope you get well soon man.
There is nothing worse than trying to get some work done when your mind is going bonkers due to all of the medicine.
Drowsy + Work = half assed result

BUT! On the plus-side, you’ve helped me possibly figure out why my girlfriend’s feet sometimes randomly swell up. Since she grew up with cystic fibrosis and had a double-lung transplant a few years ago, it was hard to figure out all of the possibilities. Angioedema sounds right though. I’ll ask her doctors when I next see them.

Even on your dead-days, you’re a helpful blogger. Thanks Dave!

  4. Karl says:

While going without shoes is something I treasure, the other stuff with the antihistamines and Red Bull and puking…not something I can say I would want.

Hope you’re up to snuff again in no time. And that you got some rest.

  5. Finn says:

I’m going to say this at the risk of sounding like a complete tool because I know you’re not an idiot and probably aleady tried this, but: What about the non-drowsy antihistamines? There are so many of them out there.

I just hate to think of you in that awful cycle and want to help. However lame that help is.

    Feel better.

  6. Tracy says:

I hope you’re feeling better today…yesterday was not your friend!

  7. Sorry to hear that. Sucks.

  8. I know it seems…oh,no so much silly as not my place, but I worry about you! Sure, I laugh and am in awe at your skillz and wish I could travel like you do and of course, like everyone else have a secret crush on you but the point here, Dave, is I WORRY about you!

Can’t wait to hear a post saying you found the answer to your most difficult health problem and you feel like a million bucks! Wishing for it until it’s a reality…

  9. Sybil Law says:

    I hope you’re better soon!
Such a fucking flippant thing to say, but I mean it!!
    xo

  10. Oh, HONEY! When you write posts like this, I just want to rub your head and feed you apple pie.

    Many East Coast kisses, hon.
