Chances

Posted on Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Dave!I've certainly done my share of stupid things. Surprisingly, not all of them can be blamed on alcohol.

My latest bout with moronic behavior came when I gave a second chance to somebody who didn't deserve it. Extending second chances is highly unusual for me to begin with, but in this case it was particularly idiotic because I knew better. My inner voice was screaming that I was going to get screwed, but I ignored it and let common sense fly out the window. All because I'm trying to be less cynical and dared to hope I was wrong. All because I was counting on being wrong.

But I wasn't wrong.

So I got screwed. They got screwed. Other people got screwed. It was a virtual suck-fest of screwage.

And, technically, it's all my fault for stupidly believing somebody had changed.

When deep down I knew they hadn't...

Dave Bang Your Head

So now I don't have time to be messing around with a blog because I've got to attempt to repair a situation that is pretty much unrepairable... hoping against hope that I'll be given a second chance for daring to have given a second chance to somebody else.

Glad I'm not the one making that decision.

Gah, I’m so sorry, Dave. I know how it feels to want to believe in someone so badly then have them screw you again. I usually only give someone two chances and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. I wish yours had.

  2. Robin says:

Life really is a clusterfuck lately, isn’t it? If that person has a vagina, you can have my fist to punch it too.

  3. jenny says:

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I’m all for giving people second chances, so it really sucks when they take advantage of your kindness.

    Hope it all works out!

  4. Oh, ish. I’m like you. I rarely give second chances anymore because of the fuck wads who were given second chances and screwed up. People suck, you know?

    Sorry, darlin’.

  5. Iron Fist says:

That sounds like a veritable orgy of screwing. Only not the fun kind of orgy.

Sorry to hear you’re having a rough time of things again, friend. 🙁

  6. Finn says:

I’m sorry you got screwed and brought someone else along for the right.

While I’m all for being less cynical (although your brand always makes me laugh out loud), I think you always must follow your gut.

  7. Nenette says:

Wow, sorry you’re going through this screwage.
I had this one person I gave too many 2nd chances to. Once my kids were born, I cut this person out of my life, because I knew that, if I gave him one more chance, my kids would end up in the screwage too.
Hope all turns out well for you. Good luck.

  8. Darci says:

Delurking to say “I hate it when this happens”. I recently also allowed someone back in – a family member to boot – and was quickly reminded why this person was out. I had some patching, really explaining to do, but have recovered and I know you will as well.

    Thinking of you.

  9. Damn…I know the feeling all too well!

  10. whall says:

I swear Dave, I’ll try not to let you down again next time. Just Ooooonnnnneeee more chance?

  11. hdw says:

    I can relate!!

I did the “Head go bang-bang” a lot this past week.

Hope your situation gets better and everything is righted soon.

  12. I’m sorry to hear this. I always try to think – at least I risked it. I’d rather be a person who risks it again. But I know it’s little consolation when someone has disappointed you. Sorry 🙁

  13. Sarah says:

Everyone has already left such awesome comments.

I’ll just tell you know that I make awesome home made chocolate pudding, if you ever need any.

  14. Sybil Law says:

    GAH!
    That is the suck.
Don’t apologize for being nice and hoping for the best, though. Those are lovely traits to have – it’s a shame more people don’t have them.

  15. The Momshell says:

I’d rather be one to give extra chances even if I do get burned. It’s just a better way to live when you weigh it all out.
