The first thing I did this morning was grab my iPhone to see what the weather was like. The second thing I did was gouge my eye with a coat hanger while gathering my clothes. The fancy hotel I was in doesn't have a bar for the coat hangers to hang on, but instead has rows of hooks that fling the hangers into your face when you pull on them. My eye wasn't bleeding, but hurt like hell. The pain was so bad that I couldn't even attempt to put in a contact lens, so I took a magic Oxycontin pain pill instead.
It had been overcast, foggy, rainy, and generally crappy in Fayetteville my entire time there, and I was worried about my flight getting out. Much to my surprise, the weather was beautiful. Sunny skies and all that.
Unfortunately, the rest of the country was not so lucky.
Because of delays elsewhere, the inbound flight was running two hours late. Since my layover in Minneapolis was only 1 hour, this was not a good thing. When I got to the airport, I was pretty much told that there was no way to get me to Washington State today. The best they could do was to put me up in a hotel in Minneapolis, reserve space on a flight there, and let them figure it out. Of course, Minneapolis is projected to get heavy snows dumped on them tomorrow, so there are no guarantees. And since Seattle is getting hit with snow as well, who knows if I will ever get home.
Once I got to Minneapolis, however, things started looking up...
And who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Right now I'm just going to take more drugs and try and get some sleep.

You’re going to see Etta James??? I had no idea she still performed! That’s awesome. “At Last” was the first song Katie and I danced to as a married couple at our wedding. We love that song!
Ever since I read this entry this morning, I’ve been singing “At Last” while baking my cookies. Thank you for that. Seriously, of all the songs to get stuck in my noggin, this is the best one. 🙂
At least you got there. If I had stayed up to play the waiting game I could have flown to VT at 3am (Saturday) instead of 10:40pm (Friday) and then tried to brave the roads at 5am to get to my friends’ house where there was a nasty storm.
But I didn’t. :p to Mother Nature.
Veggie burgers aren’t the only thing Johnny Rockets is frequently out of. Last time I was there, I ordered 2 tuna melts and sat there for half an hour before I was informed that they didn’t have any tuna. Glad you were able to score the veggie!
Wow! Etta James! I’m jealous! Have a great time.
As of 2pm Pacific time, operations at Portland’s airport are nonexistent for the remainder of today and at least the first part of tomorrow. good luck getting home, my friend.
My favorite songs of hers are Trust in Me and Sunday Kind of Love and Seven Day fool. I can’t wait to see her again! We’re gonna have so much fun. Third row, center!
Love, love, love Etta!! Can’t wait to hear your review of the show.
Emo remembers when Etta used to wear big fluffy sweaters. Yes they were pink sometimes. Are you sure Kiefer? Why yes, like the kind of fluffy stuff girls used to wrap around their boyfriend’s class rings to wear. Jesus Kiefer they don’t do that anymore. Well the did last time I saw Etta James. Kiefer you never saw Etta James in a live concert. No, Emo, not in a live concert, in a pink fluffy sweater. Oh.
I got to see Etta James a couple of summers ago when she played at the free concerts in the park series that my town put on. She was really fun to watch!
