Sinful

Posted on Monday, December 20th, 2004

Dave!Well crap! Showtime has cancelled Dead Like Me, which is easily one of the more inventive shows on television. I guess that means I can dump the channel, since the only reason I bought it in the first place was to watch this one show. It really pisses me off that they don't at least allow the creators of the show to wrap up all the loose ends, and Dead Like Me had more than most. It must really suck to be Bryan Fuller. This is the second utterly brilliant show of his to be cancelled (the other being the amazing Wonderfalls). I wonder if he'll just give up trying to create intelligent, thought-provoking shows and start creating crappy reality shows like everybody else.

In movie news, there's finally a trailer up for the adaptation of Frank Miller's Sin City... and does it ever look delicious! It would seem that they went for a literal adaptation of the comic's visual style, and I'm quite happy about that. Almost as happy as I am about the sweet hoteness that Miller & Rodriguez have lined up for the female cast (including a disturbingly sexy Alexis Bledel... Rory from Gilmore Girls is hot?!? Who knew?). Yowza! Sin City indeed...

Sin Babes

Oh yeah, they've got some other guys in it you might have heard of before... Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Michael Madsen, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, and Elijah Wood. My gut tells me the film will be fabulous, but I can't help but be pessimistic about the film's chance at commercial success.

It really is too bad that the American population at large is so stupid when it comes to entertainment. It really would be nice to have decent shows on television and movies in our theaters.

Wow, a hot Rory? Cute, yes, but hot? Sound like its going to be a interesting movie; well at least to see Alexis in other roles.

*goes of the review past Gilmore girl episodes*

Jessica Alba on the otherhand has always been hot.

    😀

  2. James Bow says:

Had I known you’d liked Wonderfalls, I’d have taped them for you. Vision TV, a national religious television network in Canada (go figure, but they are pretty liberal) has been showing all thirteen episodes. I watched episode #12 yesterday. And I’d have to say that the best episodes of the season were the later ones. They really topped up the promise of the four that Fox showed.

Oh, well. But at least the Wonderfalls DVD is due out this January.

  3. Dave2 says:

    Now that’s just cruel! 🙂

I loved that show. Brilliant in every way and, if it got even BETTER than the four I saw, then I wonder if it will rival Jeremy Piven’s “Cupid” as the best show ever to air on television?

I can’t wait for the DVD set, and will probably take the day off work when it arrives. Sadly, I think we have to wait until February for it?

Many people around me would not like this, but I am completely entranced by Brittany Murphy. Good God, she is nice. Needless to say, I’ll be checking it out, and it most likely will be brilliant.

  5. Dennis says:

I personally am completely in mourning over Dead Like Me being canceled. It was the best show on TV in years, and my favorite. I think I’m going to cancel Showtime being that there’s no reason to have it anymore…

  6. Chris says:

I can’t believe it – they’ve CANCELLED Dead Like Me? I’ve still got a few eps of Season 2 to watch yet but I love the show – George Last’s view of the world is unique and very watchable. Although my favourite character was Rube.

And yes, Sin City looks and sounds hot. Which reminds me – I never saw Series 2 of Dark Angel – January sales me thinks!

  7. Dave2 says:

Brittany Murphy is one of those actresses that is just begging to get a challenging character to play. Every once in a while you see glimpses that she could be so much more than the roles she gets. But she seems doomed to be stuck in trash with Ashton Kutcher and the like. I hope that Sin City works out for her, because I wouldn’t mind seeing more of her in movies.

  8. Dave2 says:

Dark Angel Series 2… where do I start? Series 1 was so jaw-dropping amazing that it took me a few episodes before my mind could wrap itself around how such a total hottie like Jessica Alba could kick total ass like that. The sci-fi concept of the show was too good to be true, and I looked forward to every episode like a cocaine junkie looking for a fix.

And the Series 2 came. Suddenly all that was cool about the show was tossed out for lame storylines and man-beast mutant crap. It was SO bad that I was in denial it was the same show I had come to love so hard the season before. How could such a cool show be flushed down the toilet in such a short time? Sure Alba was still there, but she seemed a pale shadow of her former self. Cute. Brutally hot. But toned down to the point of boredom. She didn’t even seem to be the focus of the show.

Anyway, I would absolutely rent it before spending your money buying it. It is quite different than the first series and NOT in a good way.

  9. DC says:

Damn actually Jessica Alba iz hott in Sin City as a striper

  10. Violet Contessa says:

I found myself rather in love with Mickey whilst at a friend’s house and seeing a most tragic advert for life insurance 😉 He looks ready to croak at any moment, and his ostensible wife/mate/whatever, is lively, alert, and speaks entirely on his behalf, whilst poor Mickey merely nods. It was very sad “material.” Going from his films to senior life insurance adverts on television?

I imagine this a reflection as to his being able to garner some money as he might not be able to get the acting jobs due to his age. I love Hollywood! So caring! Ugh.
