Without a shore excursion, I feel lost at sea. Time suddenly ceases to have meaning. How long has the ship been adrift? Hours? Days? Weeks? Months? I cannot know.
At first I try to appreciate that there is nothing to do. I wander the ship aimlessly, trying to fill the void of my boredom by eating two perfectly-formed ice cream cones for breakfast. This has no effect, so I construct a third, this time getting all fancy by making a double-reverse swirl on the top. It is delicious, but my restlessness goes unabated.
I go back to my stateroom and stare at the eternal blue from my balcony...
I start to wonder if I shall ever see land again... or if am I doomed forever to this world of blue? I suppose so long as they don't run out of chocolate-vanilla swirl ice cream, that would be okay with me...
Bored. Bored. Bored. Bored.
With nothing better to do, I start looking through the photos I took yesterday, and realize that I had gone ass-to-mouth, just like Avitable had asked for me to appear in his Week in Review!
Achilles didn't seem to mind, but my camera will never be the same again.
Tomorrow has a very early port call at 6:45am. That's kind of a bummer, because I don't think I can get in an ice cream cone before I have to go.

Hmm…. that might be sufficient to make it into WIR volume 3.
Although, to be honest, your trip to Greece was already on the list!
That’s okay… I really do think Achilles enjoyed it anyway.
I wish we could switch places just for the day. I could have your balcony of blue waters and you could have my free wi-fi ;).
Sometimes Achilles can be such a heel.
Come on, someone had to say it.
Okay, I am more convinced than ever that cruises are not for me. I can’t eat ice cream, so I’d be really inconsolable!
Didn’t you bring a book to read?
What… no monkey shirts??
OMG, you ARE a blog whore. You come off all too cool for that stuff. But dude. Ass to mouth? For AVI?
HOW does he always get people to do this crap!?
🙂
ice cream for breakfast, now THAT is the life. look how gorgeous that water is!
This ice cream machine has a serious hold over you dude. I’m beginning to wonder if you’ll be able to just walk away when your cruise is over.
I promise not to be surprised if next week I read the headlines “Washington Man commandeers Greek Cruise Ship Screaming ‘You’ll Never Take My Ice Cream Land Lubbers!’ “
CRÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈÈME GLACÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉE ! 😀
I scream too, when I read “ice cream” ! 😉
À LA VANIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLE ! 😀
Ice cream cones for breakfast and skies so bright sunglasses don’t work?
Oh, Dave. What great stuff!
Thanks. Really.
man! i am so jealous. i am loving the pictures.
Its funny to me to hear your comments about being at sea. I’m a sailor, and although I miss friends and family, being at sea feels comfortable for me. There’s very little else I love than the eternal blue.
I went on a cruise once…it was rough…I was pregnant, it was hot, I would only stay in port, off the boat, for an hour because I was SO scared to be left behind in a crazy town…like, um, well, it was only the Bahamas, but still. And I could never get a chaise at the pool. Okay, it was the Disney Cruise. Your’s sounds so much better! Food and all.
No casino, movie theater, or dance club on the ship to pass the time?
Bingo with the gray hairs?
I feel like it’s a reasonable thing to have ice cream for breakfast. After all, it’s mostly milk and carbohydrates… and don’t some folks call that “cereal?”
Too bad you don’t have anyone to share the ice cream with! You could have ice cream eating races and cone making contests.
Aren’t there any cute ladies you could follow around on the boat or just a bunch of old people. ha. Just having fun with ya.
Last night I was at the (Lake Michigan) beach near my new place enjoying how the sky and the water seemed to merge together at dusk. It was terribly peaceful.
that photo of the sea looks so pretty.. some of the comments made me genuinely laugh. then i see from patty ‘too bad you don’t have anyone to share the ice-cream with.you could have ice cream eating races..aren’t there any cute ladies you could follow around the boat or just a bunch of old people..just having fun with ya.’ I thought a good reply to that would be.. naw none as cute as you snookums and I’m sure you’d win all the ice-cream races too.. just havin fun with ya. ha!
