From the pages of Blogography comes an app so mind-blowingly useless, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it! Just think of a question for the Ask Dave! app, shake your iPhone or iPod Touch, and all of life's answers will magically appear. Please note that Ask Dave! is just for fun. Any resemblance to actual advice is purely coincidental, and should not be taken seriously (much like Dave himself).

Six Times the Dave.

From the opening menu you select one of six Daves, each with a different personality and way of answering questions. Choose from Lil' Dave, Lil' Zombie Dave, Lil' Nirvana Dave, Lil' Geeky Dave, Lil' Pirate Dave, and Lil' Devil Dave. Tapping on the "Ask a Dave" button on the bottom will randomly choose a Dave for you. Tapping on the "info" button in the bottom-right corner will bring up the app credits.

Shake Things Up.

Once you've selected a Dave, think of a question and give your iPhone or iPod Touch a shake. Lil' Dave with shake his screen and the answer to your question will appear. Shake again to get a new answer. If you want to know more about the Dave you've selected (including a breakdown of their responses) tap the "info" button in the bottom-right corner. To switch to a different Dave, tap the "question mark" button in the bottom-left corner to return to the Dave Menu.

Pretty Animated.

Each Dave character has been lovingly re-drawn and re-colored especially for this app, all while remaining faithful to the DaveToon originals you know and love. Not only that, but each Dave comes with a custom rotating background that turns night into day... causes lava to flow and circuits to ignite... or even swamp gas and radioactive fireflies to float across the screen! Lil' Dave has never looked better.

A Dave in Progress.

Ask Dave! is brought to you by David Simmer II from Blogography and David Syzdek from Bindle Binaries. For best operation, we recommend resetting your iPhone/iPod Touch after installation (keep holding the "sleep/wake" and "home" buttons until it reboots to the Apple logo). We're always working on improving the app and squashing bugs. If you need help in the meanwhile, David has a support page over at his site.

The Ask Dave! app is based on the original Ask Dave! Dashboard Widget for MacOS X (still available for free, from Apple's download site). This app is proudly created under an open source F/OSS agreement and may be freely distributed for noncommercial purposes so long as the work is attributed to the authors. All images are ©2009 by David Simmer II and covered by a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND license. All source code and programming is ©2009 by David Syzdek and covered by a GNU General Public License license. For the technically-minded, David maintains an Ask Dave! project log over at Bindle Binaries.

So what are you waiting for? Go ask Dave something, it's FREE...
