Turns out that Be Cool, while interesting in parts, is pretty much a retread of Get Shorty, but not as clever. Oh well, it was a nice diversion on a Sunday afternoon.
After the movie, I really wanted to take my motorcycle out, but I had some work that badly needed tending to. Unfortunately this would involve trying to fix my crap Windows XP system, because that's the crap OS that the crap software I need is crap required to run on. Since the only way to actually fix a Windows problem is to reformat the drive and reinstall everything, that's what I had to waste my time with. After finally getting everything running again (over an hour later), I got to work...
... only to find out that the program refuses to run under the new install. I played around trying to get it going for a couple of hours, but nothing I did worked out. All I managed to do was break the system AGAIN.
I can see now that there is truly only one solution for "fixing" Windows XP...
WTF?!? I mean, seriously. You can call me a Mac whore, Steve Job's bitch, or an arrogant Apple bastard... but my Mac ACTUALLY WORKS when I need to get something done. Windows XP is nothing but a bloated piece of shite that I spend more time working ON than I actually spend time working WITH. Why? Why do people who use Windows actually put up with this crap? Do you know the last time I had to reinstall the MacOS X on my laptop? NEVER!!!! It has been upgraded several times, but there's never been a reason to install the OS since the day MacOS X was released! On top of that, I never turn my PowerBook off... I just put it to sleep. My uptime is MONTHS, not mere days. If it weren't for updates and software installs, I'd probably NEVER have to reboot it.
So I just wasted an entire afternoon trying to get caught up, but instead get further behind AND missed an opportunity to ride. Just when I think Windows couldn't possibly suck more ass than it does, Microsoft proves me wrong.

Because we can’t afford Macs, or need to run specialist software?
While I won’t argue that MAC is by far a superior product from a great many angles — I thought you’d find it as amusing as we do that in our alternative-universe, 4-computer house… the two Windows machines (Windows 98 and XP) have barely had so much as a hiccup in the last 1-2 years, and the two MACS (G4 and Titanium Powerbook) are a constant source of frustration and wasted energy for poor Shane.. who spends at least an hour a week on various snags, book problems.. and countless cumulative hours waiting for various programs to load.

I’m not the biggest fan of windows… i even think Amiga Kickstart/Workbench is a better designed OS. But i’ve never understood all the claims that the Windows 2000/XP platform is unstable. My PC is custom built and i’ve gone through an infinite magnitude of different hardware combinations, some very unstandard kit too and yet windows has never offered any less than a 24 hour uptime. Heck even now i’ve got 2 soundcards in my pc, an Audigy and a semi-pro audiophile.
The last time windows gave me any headache; when i could hand-on-heart say it was the OS’s fault was when i had beta 2 builds of Whistler.
I must say that the amount of problems I’ve had with Windows XP as such, is close to none. Most often it’s the other programs that tend be buggy. This could of course be inflicted by Windows XP itself, but in comparison with earlier versions, XP is a wonder of stability…
If I didn’t live 7500 km from you I would gladly have helped out. I’m pretty used to computer support issues.
I am completely serious when I say that I would rather use a $499 Mac Mini over a $3000 top-of-the-line Windows box any day. Maybe it’s just my bad luck that Windows doesn’t work for me (and never really has), but it’s just too much to bear.
The speed comparison has never really been an issue for me. Any speed advantage in loading Windows apps is easily offset by the fact that I never really close my Mac apps anymore… they’re always running, just like my Mac is always running. And in side-by-side tests, actual tasks seem about equal on either platform. About the only “snag” I run into is Adobe Illustrator’s crashes, which is hardly Apple’s fault because all my other apps are pretty much bullet-proof.
Virtual PC is too frustratingly slow, but it’s a nice option when I am on the road and need a PC for some reason or another. Fortunately, this is increasingly rare.
When it comes down to it, if the next “Longhorn” version of Windows comes out and completely blows OS X out of the water, then I have no problems switching to MS. But given my past history with their products, I really doubt that will be the case.
