Outbreak

Posted on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Dave!Sometimes sensationalistic headlines are justified.

EBOLA VIRUS KILLS EVERYONE IN ITS PATH: HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

Ebola!

It's both horrifying and fascinating to me that something like this exists. I just spent the past two hours going down the Wikipedia rabbit hole over all the crazy crap that can kill us humans horribly... and it's all stuff that we can't even see (well, without a microscope anyways).

We are such astoundingly fragile creatures. We really are.

I've never felt more alive.

Wish I could remember the URL for the site that lets you track the outbreak of infectious diseases worldwide. Used to be friends on FB with someone who followed the site. She posted a link to an outbreak in Kansas for spongiform encephalopathy. I correctly guessed Mad Cow Disease.

Ha! YIKES! Looking at a map like that would be more information than I want to know! ZOMG! THERE’S AN OUTBREAK IN YOUR BACK YARD! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Kailyn says:

I only looked at the site once. Freaked me out beyond belief. Hearing about outbreaks through news sources is enough for me. But if you want to check it out, here’s the link.

Crap. And now I know that someone who lived in my county died of Hantavirus recently. That crap is right up there with Ebola in my book. Oh but it looks like he got it while at Yosemite.

Holy shit! Right around the time you posted this, I was spending an hour reading up on the history of smallpox for some reason. Scary, scary stuff…

    • Dave2 says:

It really is. Ebola causes you to BLEED OUT OF EVERY ORIFICE! YES… BLEED OUT OF EVERY ORIFICE UNTIL YOU DIE!! Scary, scary, SCARY stuff!

  3. Personally, I plan on going out in a Krispy Kreme laced gluten haze!! Or in a derby pile up…..

  4. Dad says:

We humans spend unknown billions of dollars on wars that kill and injure people all over the world. Many of these modern wars will not change anything for the good and just leave more people in poverty and with disease. In many cases we humans do this because a people may worship differently and we must force our beliefs on others, but in most cases itโ€™s simply to have power over others. If people believe that God created all of us, then we are all brothers and sisters and should be spending the billions on helping each other in fighting disease and poverty instead of war.

    • Dave2 says:

And yet… war is in our nature. And it’s escalating all the time. We can’t seem to stop ourselves, even though the dire consequences of war are a known quantity. But where does it end? Einstein has a quote that summarizes it best: “I do not know with what weapons World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.” – It strikes to the very core of truth as to where we’re headed as a species. And yet we never seem to learn.

  5. Sarah says:

I grew Ebola in my Microbiology class. I felt a little like a mad scientist/evil villain when I did it. I could have brought the world to my feet! BWHAHAHA. Or, ya know, put it in the incinerator to be destroyed after I was done. Choices.
