Day Three: Keukenhof!

Posted on Friday, April 13th, 2012

Dave!Today I visited the world-famous Keukenhof, "The Garden of Europe."

It is so famous that I had never heard of it before The DutchBitch suggested that we go there this morning and take photos of flowers.

Here is my assessment...

If somebody were to say "It is one of the most amazing fucking things I've ever seen in my life..." they would be underselling it.

It's that good. Huge grounds filled with meticulously maintained flowers and walkways...

Annnnnd... I'm going to have to stop before I post the entirety of the hundreds of photos I took. All of them amazing. It is impossible to take a bad photograph at The Keukenhof.

After a couple hours, all of Europe turned up at the gardens, so we decided to leave while we still had room to walk out. With time to kill, The DutchBitch drove me to the city of Leiden. Where they have a citadel!

And then it was time for PATATJES MET and an OLD CHEESE SANDWICH! Two of my most favorite things to eat.

Which makes the day just about perfect.

    Gorgeous!!

  2. Jennifer Love says:

BEAUTIFUL photos! Need a 35mm. Digital is nice but film is so much better on pretty floral shots. Almost makes me want to dig out the 35 and see if any of the film in the bag is still any good. *sigh* I love pretties.

You look so American standing there in your jeans and sneakers. 😀

  3. claire says:

Wow! I am actually completely sold because of the wood lily pad walkway on the lake. That’s AWESOME!

Glad you had such a great day!

  4. martymankins says:

Wow. I had heard of the gardens from the CEO at my day job (we have a Netherlands office in Rotterdam) and he visited there on one of his visits. Amazing to see how wonderful this place is.

  5. Invader_Stu says:

I’ll be at Keukenhof myself later this year. Looking forward to it.

    • DutchBitch says:

Stu: “Later this year”? You might want to hurry up with that. Another few weeks and there’s nothing to see there anymore 🙁

  6. Megan says:

You know I love me some flower photos! These are wonderful.

I thought about you the other day when someone mentioned that mayo with french fries was gross. They were on the radio so I couldn’t smack them for you. 🙂

What does the old cheese taste like? I love cheese… especially cheese sandwiches. With mayo.

  7. Poppy says:

    Pretty… 🙂 🙂 🙂

  8. the muskrat says:

Wow! We took close ups of flowers around Washington DC to put in our girl’s room while she was gestating (and I was deployed to Andrews AFB at the time, so we had lots of weekends to visit arboretums, gardens, etc.) in 2006, but none of our pictures were as beautiful as these. Would love to see this place!
