Conditions

Dave!I hate snow.

Actually, that's not true. Snow is pretty. And you can do fun stuff in it.

What I really hate is the people who make me hate the snow. Which is just about everybody... but mostly the people who are driving in it. Like the moron I followed home after work who was driving 5mph in a 25mph zone. Never mind that the snow wasn't even sticking to the road and the biggest danger was getting your tires wet... IT'S SNOWING! SO YOU HAVE TO DRIVE 20MPH UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT OR EVERYBODY DIES!

But worse than those people are the people who drive 45mph in a 25mph zone when the snow is falling like gangbusters and the road is so slick with ice that it's all you can do to keep from sliding off it. Inevitably these are the assholes who end up behind me, grinding on my bumper as I try to survive the drive home.

Too slow for conditions. Too fast for conditions. You just can't win when it comes to snow.

Anway... can you guess what happened today?

DAVETOON: Lil' Dave in the Snow

Couldn't this have waited until AFTER I fly out on Friday?

Of course not! You just can't win when it comes to snow.

I won when it came to snow last January–we had an enormous snow storm that shut Atlanta down for 4 days, and I was in Hawaii at the time! Woot!

  4. I was born and raised in Florida where it has snowed exactly ONCE in January of 1977! I saw it on TV and in movies and thought…. “Oh how pretty!” Then I took a vacation with my then fiancee in 1994 to New Hampshire to meet his family and wouldn’t you know it, they just had to take the Florida girl up to Vermont to see snow. I had no really warm clothes, no hat, no real coat, and no boots….. I froze my ass off! Even better, I slipped on some ice and threw my back out! I decided I was never going to live where there would be great amounts of snow on the ground EVER! This warm weather girl learned her lesson!

If it’s freezing cold, I want snow. My morning commute is only like, 5 minutes, though, so people don’t bother me TOO much. They drive like assholes even when weather conditions are perfect and dry – because they’re the only people on the planet, obviously.
It was 29 degrees here this morning, but I didn’t even have to scrape off the car. That was a pleasant surprise!
    Hope your day improves!

SNOW! SNOW! I know the drudgery of snow and cold. I curse it each and every winter that I’ve been here in Utah. But yet somehow, I’m still here.

BTW, you should totally turn that Lil Dave toon above into a holiday card. I would be proud to send holiday cards to my friends and family with that image above.

  7. BosGuy says:

Me too. When I was younger I loved snow, but no more. I’m hoping that Boston is spared from too much of the white stuff this year; esp since last winter seemed to break all sorts of snowfall records (ugh).
