Bullet Sunday 222

Posted on Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Dave! After the sheer awesomeness of my Saturday, I did the best I could to get through Bullet Sunday.

Meh.

• She's a Wonder. And so the most perfect woman on earth, Elizabeth Hurley, has been tapped for a role in David E. Kelly's Wonder Woman project. Apparently she'll be playing Wonder Woman's far more beautiful and classy arch-nemesis, Veronica Cale. I, of course, think she would be perfect as Wonder Woman herself, hard as it will be for anyone to fill Linda Carter's red boots. She was Wonder Woman. Even with Elizabeth Hurley, I have to say I am still very, very nervous about the show. If David E. Kelly can resist the urge to add his stupid-ass Allie McBeal craziness to the mix, it might have a chance...

Elizabeth Hurley is Wonder Woman!

• Pretty Cool. Gotta hand it to Miley Cyrus, she handled her guest-hosting on Saturday Night Live like a champ last night. She not only managed to get in a few digs on Lindsay Lohan, but spent a lot of time poking fun at herself as well. Of course, what every SNL fan was waiting for was seeing if she would make an appearance on Vanessa Bayer's ongoing "Miley Cyrus Show" skit. Surprisingly, she did... as Justin Bieber!

Miley Cyrus Show on SNL

I was secretly hoping that Billy Ray Cyrus would make an appearance as himself here, but Jason Sudeikis did his usual hysterical impersonation. A couple sketches fell flat for me (The Sound of Music, really?)... but overall it was a pretty funny episode and Miley did a great job. I still miss Hannah Montana.

• Upgrade. Microsoft has an entire website devoted to killing off their piece of shit web browser, Internet Explorer 6...

Internet Explorer 6 Must Die!

Their suggestion is to have you upgrade to Internet Explorer 8.

If I may be so bold, a suggestion: bypass Internet Explorer 8 and upgrade directly to an even better browser...

Or, don't stop upgrading there... get rid of Windows and step up to Macintosh! It's so much nicer up here!

• Downgrade. Meeee-ow! My review of the latest "upgrade" to Twitter for iPhone...

DAVE TWITTER REVIEW:

Developers always seem to play the victim by saying things like "Well, nobody wants to pay for apps anymore, so we use ads. SOMEBODY has to pay, so cut us a break!" — And that's a very good point... except you can't expect people to be happy when the app's functionality is impaired by the ads. Either find a way to insert ads in a way that's not going to shit all over your app, or just charge for the damn thing.

• Go for the Gold. One last thing before I go... this morning I discovered Rold Gold "Everything Bagel" Pretzels. Deeeelicious. They kind of reminds me of Chex Mix, but more subtle and without the fishy Worcestershire sauce to mess things up. Still really good flavor though. This is a great find because it's really tough to find the Snyders of Hanover flavors I like around here...

And there's Bullet Sunday for you. Until next week... stay classy, blogosphere.

I’ve been using Firefox for several years, so I wouldn’t even know the benefits or the problems inherent in any of those other browsers. I’m sticking with what works for me.

  2. Lisa says:

I don’t have a problem paying for apps I like, mostly because I hate the ads but I also think developers should be paid for their work. It’s only fair. Usually if an app offers a free or paid version I will try the free and end up buying the “pro” version. Twitter for iPhone should do that. I haven’t updated in a while so I haven’t seen the ad bar yet, but I’m sure it will drive me insane.

  3. martymankins says:

I found that IE 6 countdown site pretty interesting. It appears the US are not the hold outs… it’s China. Someone in China that controls the infrastructure needs to start blocking anyone that uses IE 6, forcing people to upgrade.

And yes, the smart money (unless you are needing 100% ASP compatibility is Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

I watched part of SNL and agree that Miley was pretty good. Loved how she poked fun at herself (and her dad).

I don’t use the official Twitter app. I tried it and it just seemed like they took Tweetie and made way too many changes to it. Echofon has been very solid, even when they released a new version, they didn’t try to change too much.

  4. I think Elizabeth Hurley would make a good Hippolyta.

  5. your obsession with ms. hurley makes me smile.
i will never understand your love of hannah montana and that is ok.
firefox is my go to. but i call it foxfire and i can’t break myself of it. drives me nuts.
in pittsburgh i can get just about anything the snyder’s of hanover folks offer. holler if you ever want a care package mailed west…

  6. That reminds me, I need to write a review on the Twitter app. I hate–no, I LOATHE–the stupid trending bar. Who the hell asked for that as a feature? The fact I can’t make it go away short of jailbreaking my iPhone makes me scream every time I use it. Seriously.

  7. Sybil Law says:

    Firefox is awesome.
And I didn’t know jack shit about this WW stuff until right now. Or maybe I’ve forgotten. Holy crap, it had BETTER be good…

  8. My husband agrees with you about Liz playing WW. Now the question is, would she have played it with or without the accent??

  9. Karl says:

SNL was surprisingly actually *funny* the other night…mostly. It was cool to see Miley able to laugh at herself. As usual, though, my favorite part was Weekend Update. The writing seemed particularly “on” the other night.

  10. bo says:

The Weather Channel royally screwed themselves with their Android app recently. It was a great app, then they updated it and now it’s like a five-year-old with broken fingers built it. The last two weeks have been nothing but one-star reviews.

None are as good as your review above though.

  11. I love Vanessa Bayer’s Miley skit. I totally forgot to watch Saturday’s SNL. To the internets!

  12. the muskrat says:

Totally agree on IE and the new Twitter, which I just got. But I do like how it’s easier to type an “@” reply, because of the auto correcting from my list of follows. Other than that, I’m not a fan.

By the way, do you know if the iphone 5 is really coming out this summer? I don’t have the 4 yet and was planning to get it, but I ain’t gonna if 5 will be out in a few months.

    • Dave2 says:

Probably. Apple is going to want to stay ahead of the curve. If not this summer, I’d say definitely in the Fall. Still, there’s ALWAYS a newer model around the corner. If you are happy with your current phone and can wait, then you probably should hold out for iPhone 5. But if there are features in an iPhone 4 that you need and want to be using right now, then maybe waiting 5-7 months isn’t worth it?
