Overreaction

Posted on Monday, December 28th, 2009

Dave!Look, as somebody who travels frequently, I am all for rules and regulations that will actually give me a better chance of not exploding in-air from a terrorist attack. But this ever-escalating dog-and-pony show in the name of "safety" only serves to punish the innocent and has really got to stop...

Recreational Air Travel is Going Down

When it comes to airline security, we've got to pull up before it's too late.

  1. Things like “you can’t use the restroom the last hour of the flight” is crazy (and a problem for me!).

Besides if I wanted to do something bad, wouldn’t I just do it 61 minutes before the end of the flight?

  2. THANK YOU! Ack. Thank you. I would wait three hours in a security line and not have a blanket on my lap all flight if we were actually doing things that would help. But I’m not hearing anything that would actually make travelers safer.

  3. kapgar says:

Are they really pushing people to bring no carry-ons whatsoever? Despite charging extra for checked bags? And giving nothing to do on these flights?

For constant travelers like you, I really feel for you. It’s gotta suck.

  4. martymankins says:

    Simple and to the point.

  5. Finn says:

    Amen.

How about we keep people off of the plane who have been turned in by their parents because they pose a threat? That would be a novel approach, no?

  6. hdw says:

We have a trip to San Antonio this spring, and we’re already discussing driving instead. Why? Unlimited potty stops for me! FTW! 🙂

  7. A. Lewis says:

That’s what happens when we’ve done next to nothing since 9-11. Nothing. Window dressing. We’ve had ample time to do it right and we’ve chosen not to. Don’t you just love living where we are REACTIVE and not RESPONSIVE. We’re a mess.

  8. Poppy says:

People who want to do bad things are always one step ahead of us. I’m sure there’s a list somewhere of allllll the creative ways to harm a plane.

And making me not use the bathroom during the last hour of my flight (in Friday’s case, the entire duration of the flight) ain’t gonna stop that plane ‘splodin’.

  9. whitenoise says:

Try living with this system EVERY WORKING DAY OF YOUR LIFE. Every time I renew my security clearance- I’m background-checked six ways to Sunday- YET- I’m still subjected to the ridiculous pat-downs and xrays. And for what? I ALREADY have control of the airplane.
