Tiger

Posted on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Dave! After finally dragging my ass to bed at midnight, I got a whopping three hours of sleep before I was wide awake again. Needless to say, this blows. With nothing better to do, I decided to see if any blogs were updated and check my email.

My first email was a notice telling me that the itinerary for my upcoming Denver/Salt Lake City trip had changed... again! Since I made the reservation on May 1st, I've received itinerary changes on May 16th, June 7th, June 13th, July 22nd, August 3rd, and now August 18th. Nothing major, but with seven flight segments, it's a pain in the ass to try and figure out what's changed each time. MAKE. UP. YOUR. MIND!

The next email was from ScanCafe telling me that they had scanned another batch of my old photos and I need to go online and review which ones I wanted to keep. Sweet! That's almost worth losing sleep over!

Probably my favorite photo of me ever taken is this one...

Sleepy Baby Dave in Tiger Slippers

Half-asleep... messed up hair... hanging out in my underwear and tiger slippers... it's as if nothing has changed in 40 years.

I never noticed until now that this was just one in a series of awesome photos from Halloween at 19 months...

Tiger Slippers Photo Set

Damn, what a cute baby I was! Seriously, I'm like a pedophile's wet dream I was so adorable!

How is it that I never ended up in movies and television commercials?

Baby Dave with Watermelon

I totally blame my parents that I'm not a drug-addicted former child-star living in some Hollywood back-alley waiting for my shot at a humiliating reality television show. Why couldn't I have reprehensible parents who whore their kids out for money like Jon and Kate? What good is it being one of the cutest babies ever if I wasn't exploited for cash?

I really do need to find me a new pair of tiger slippers. It's so totally a good look for me.

    Crazy true story here.

When I was a kid, I was adorable. Similar to how I am now, but notch up the adorable switch a few clicks and that’s how adorable I was.

My mother was taking pics of me at some shopping mall when she was approached by an agent who wanted her to let me be a child model. Seriously. And this was before the proliferation of pedophiles.

She said no because she was a good Catholic woman who didn’t want her son to be the living embodiment of all that was sinful in this country.

I think I would have gone for the cash.

  2. Sarah says:

You were a ridiculously cute baby. But I would have expected that since you are adorable now.

  3. Chris says:

I’d *SO* go pedo for you!

  4. You have not changed! 🙂

  5. Michelle says:

Very definitely a cutie. I love the watermelon face.

  6. Michelle M. says:

You are adorable. That photo of you in the chair is too much.

    Tiger slippers.

  7. Avitable says:

Your jack-o-lantern is very serious looking.

  8. Hilly says:

Ooooh yay! I am glad you found more pictures from that “tiger era” because I love the first one. Not only are all of those cute pictures of you but also I love seeing 70’s era pictures!

  9. delmer says:

You parents weren’t all bad. It looks like they let you carve pumpkins with sharp knives.

  10. Sybil Law says:

Oh my GAH you were adorable!!!
    (Still are, of course!)
You totally need some new tiger slippers, and then take some new shots of you in the same outfit.
    😉

  11. Miss Britt says:

The second one in the series is so Blue Steel. Are you sure you don’t have child modeling in your past and you’ve just repressed the memories of blowing all your child modeling cash on juice boxes and hookers?

  12. Tiger slippers for the win I feel.

  13. Muskrat says:

you’re stoned in the first pic, right?

  14. Dave2 says:

All of them. That’s straight vodka in my bottle there.

  15. DutchBitch says:

FINALLY the cute baby pictures!!! I have been awaiting those for months!!!

You were a cute baby 🙂

  16. Mik says:

Very cute, the green chair is cool too.

  17. Poppy says:

    Punk rocker. hehehehe

  18. I would comment on the studliness of the younger you, but I don’t want to end up on a stalker/sexual deviant list somewhere.

But, if you do find more tiger slippers, I want a picture for under my pillow.

  19. Ok, that pedophile’s wet dream comment was AWE-SOME. And freaky.

Super, super cute, Dave. The chubby legs. The baggy underwear. I can’t take the cuteness!

  20. claire says:

Great pics! I’m almost sold on ScanCafe. They have a good pitch, though I am thrown a bit by the idea of sending my pics to Bangalore. Have you ever sent them negatives to scan? I wonder if that’s the better bang for your buck quality-wise… but presumably you’d then have to make all your images positives after you got your scans…

  21. Dave2 says:

Negatives are scanned into proper positive image files (no additional work required), and do provide better photos than the paper photo scans (assuming the negatives are in good shape).

I too was scared to send my precious photos to California knowing that they would be leaving the country, but all that changed when I found out that DigMyPics (a US company where I’ve had work done before) burned down and took a lot of customer photos with it. That made me realize that there are dangers no matter what you do… but nothing more dangerous that NOT scanning your photos and having the negatives and prints disintegrate or become damaged. So I went with ScanCafe because they had excellent quality at much better prices. I have sent three batches now and have not regretted it one bit. Everything I get from them has been the best possible quality (especially considering the old age of many of the pieces I’ve sent in).

  22. yellojkt says:

You look the same as ever.

  23. Robin says:

Love the pics….the tiger slippers are awesome! Your parents didn’t exploit you for money because they wanted all that cuteness for themselves…can’t say I blame them. 🙂

I think I am going to try ScanCafe…I have some really old pics of my dad and I in Jamaica that I want to have scanned (and possibly fixed….I tried to fix the pics on Photoshop and it wasn’t that great….).

  24. kapgar says:

That last image looks like it could’ve served as inspiration for Heath Ledger’s Joker.

  25. christie says:

    awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

  26. kilax says:

I heard of scan cafe years ago and packaged up all of my negatives to send them, but never did (money issues). Do you like their services?

  27. Dave2 says:

More than any other service I’ve used… this is my fourth set of scans, and they’ve all been pretty good!

  28. Baby Dave is SO CUTE!!!
