Internetless

Posted on Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Dave!Well this day sucks ass.

It started out well enough... I'm on my way to New York City, baby!

But then my flight out of Seattle was delayed two hours and it was all downhill from there. I thought that the hour wait to get my luggage would be the end of it. Until I got to the hotel... WHERE THE FREAKIN' INTERNET DOESN'T WORK!! You'd think I was staying at the Motel 6 or something... but this is a freakin' FOUR-STAR HOTEL IN MID-TOWN MANHATTAN!! Apparently $340 a night doesn't assure you of internet. WTF?!?

After three trips to the front desk to get busted internet routers, I gave up. I suppose I'll just have to figure it all out tomorrow. Oh well. Life may suck, but I AM in New York!

I Dave New York!

Time for a McVeggie Deluxe in Times Square!

Glad you’re back! I think several of us were going through withdrawls.

  2. pookalu says:

    WELCOME TO NEW YORK!

    woo hoo!

i love the balance of the $340/night hotel and the McD’s veggie burger. Tres Classy!

  3. Eve says:

Hope today was better. We’ll have to wait and see, now won’t we?

  4. SJ says:

NO INTERNET?!?! I sincerely hope they discounted your room, then.

  5. James says:

I was only in NY for a day! I’m jealous. I did manage to see Times Square at night and a Broadway play (the Lion King). Coming from a small hick town, they were both awesome sights!

  6. Karl says:

Wow, $340 a night for no Internet? Do they at least give you fitted bottom sheets for the bed? Did you have to go to a Internet cafe just to post? How long are you in NY for?

  7. Göran says:

You ARE going to the Applestore on fifth, right? That glassbox entrance is driving me crazy! I try to comfort myself with the fact that New York is too hot right now. 🙂

    Hope the internet worked out.

  8. Chanakin says:

Go to the front desk when there’s a lot of people milling around.

Announce to the clerk, “there’s a problem with my internet connection. I can only see the peep cams in rooms 12 through 20. Can you send somebody up to fix it, please? Thanks.”

  9. Mario says:

I tried to click on the rss feed for this entry and guess what happened? My internet connection broke down for a couple of hours! Couldn’t get a dhcp lease. We’ll have to make a sacrifice to the isp gods, I guess.

  10. Bec says:

That God you’re not dead or in a hospital bed! Tell the hotel there’s a class action lawsuit coming it’s way from all Blogography readers for emotional distress… or similar.

  11. Jakwee says:

Oooh, are you at the Roosevelt? That’s where I’ll be next weekend. I might have to change my reservations now.

  12. I am glad to hear it is the internet and not you that was broken. In a few more hours I would have been standing outside your blog yelling, “Open the pod bay doors, Dave!”. Metaphorically, of course.

  13. Wayne Hall says:

I travel _a lot_ and frequently depend on hotel broadband, whether it be wired in the room or wireless throughout the hotel. My company is an iPass reseller, and the short of it is iPass gets me connected to internet and VPN’ed into my corporate network from tens of thousands of places, be it the airport, hotel, McDonald’s, or whatever. It’s quite handy and I must say I’m addicted.

But there are still times that I can’t get connected, much like the experience you’re having with the busted routers. It’s those times when I’m forever grateful for my Verizon internet card. Just about anywhere I go, I pop the PCMCIA card in and bam, 400-800kbps of connectivity on my laptop. At the park, beach, hotel, it works all over the city just about anywhere. It gets me what I need because it’s close enough to broadband to work.

And then when I’m truly in the sticks and nothing works for the laptop, my trusty blackberry 8700c delivers the essentials like email and Blogography. I can even enter comments! Oh, and fandango is awesome on the blackberry, as ell as the free 411 Berry tool. Google local maps, finding stuff, etc.

So work aside, isn’t 24×7 access to blogography worth the monthly fee? It’s $59/mo unlimited all over the nation…. I’m sure glad I have it.

Dave, have fun and I heart the ‘I new york’ logo. I’m sure you will ‘dave’ new york quite well.

  14. Deb_LA says:

Please don’t tell me you were in NYC and you went to McDonalds. That is just…no, Dave, no…
