Dave Approved: Big City Soup

Posted on Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Dave! After last night's culinary disaster for dinner, I took absolutely no chances today. For breakfast I went straight to McDonalds for an Egg & Cheese Biscuit, then for Lunch I went to one of my most favorite places to eat in all the land... Big City Soup! Seriously, the soup here is so good that it should probably be a controlled substance. As if that wasn't enough, they've usually got two or three vegetarian selections on the menu, so there's always something good for me to eat.

Today I decided on a Cheese Panini with their delectable Tomato-Basil soup that was ever so yummy. Almost worth a trip to Salt Lake City all by itself...

Big City Soup

Big City Soup

If you're ever in town, I'd highly recommend dropping by Big City Soup.

It came as no surprise that SLC has a new Apple Store here at The Gateway, and I felt compelled to run in and caress a video iPod for a few minutes. This is always a dangerous gambit, because one day the temptation will be too great. Fortunately I was semi-rational today, and was able to leave without a $400 dent in my credit card.

But I want one ever so bad.

CHAPTER 13: Jingle Hell.
LEGO ADVENT CALENDAR TOY OF THE DAY: Crossing Arm.

Lego Buzz has just chopped a crossing guard in half, and is moving in on Lego Dave and his friends...

"YEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAW!" screams Lego Buzz as he starts inching towards Lego Dave, his rotary saw slicing through the air in wide arcs. "I'm gonna cut you... CUT YOU UP!"

But before Lego Buzz can take another step, a crossing arm comes crashing down on him! Barky the Dog has snuck into the dead crossing guard's control booth and managed to press the "DOWN" button!

"Bark! Bark!" says Barky the Dog triumphantly!
"Argh!" says the evil Lego Buzz!
"Cool!" says the construction worker with his hand chopped off!
"Way to go Barky!" says Lego Dave! "Now hop in the wheelbarrow, because we need to get Mr. Construction Worker to the hospital before gangrene sets in!
Lego Holiday Thirteen
Is this finally the end for Lego Buzz?

I have been wanting the new video iPod also. It’s so damn sexy. But as long as my little green mini is working I have to wait.

Also, I find it pleasantly disturbing that the crossing guard was chopped in two but yet still has a smile on his face.

  2. Neil says:

If you’re still in SLC, there’s some famous place there that has the best ice cream ever — mostly because Mormon control of everything years back didn’t allow for many other vices.

  3. sandra says:

re: video iPod – my 20g just committed suicide and although it is likely possible that I could somehow arrange CPR…well, it’s just a damn good excuse to go buy a video iPod.

And re: Big City Soup – sounds fabulous, but do you think the residents of Salt Lake City might kick your butt for using the word “bitchin'”? 😉

  4. Michelle says:

    That soup looks tasty…mmmmmm…

  5. MRKisThatKid says:

Hurray buzz has been crushed! Weird thing is I generally do feel happy now.

The photo really is selling the soup for me, it looks like a dirty protest :-/

  6. How much does that soup run you?

  7. I’m really enjoying “A Very Logo Holiday Tale”. Looking forward to the next installment (each day)! I’ve even recruited a few friends to check it out, but I think they’re starting to lose sleep over the imagery…

  8. Belinda says:

*sigh* If only. To have Big City Soup, I’d imagine we’d have to come up with a big city. Not gonna happen.

And just my humble opinion, but Barky seems…not that bright. Even by plastic dog standards.

  9. Dave2 says:

I think it was pretty classy for the crossing guard to die with a smile on his face! Having your guts ripped out with a rotary saw couldn’t have been pleasant.

ICE CREAM!!! About the only ice cream I’ve eaten in SLC is at the Benn & Jerry’s that’s at The Gateway. I’ll have to take a more thorough look next time I’m in town.

Is “bitchin'” an offensive word? I sure hope not… it’s a phrase I regularly use in mixed company! There’s nothing quit so bitchin’ as “bitchin'”!

    The soup is a bit pricey, but worth every penny… $5.60 for a 12-oz. cup… $6.50 for a 16-oz. cup.

Nobody is more disturbed by “A Very Log Holiday Tale” than I am. I swear, the story is writing itself!

Barky not bright? He was the dog who managed to defeat Lego Buzz! I think that makes him pretty smart for a plastic dog with a lego bump on his back! 🙂

  10. Belinda says:

Well, you should give him better lines, maybe.

Oh, and Consumer Reports says to hold off on the video i-pod because they will get better soon!

  11. ChillyWilly says:

wow… see what I get for not coming out to this blog in the last 10 days… I miss your trip to SLC.

Big City Soup is the best, as are most of the shops at The Gateway.

I was at the opening of the Apple Store here the week before Thanskgiving. Nice to know we have one here now.

Next time, I’ll have to keep track of this blog and see when you’ll be in SLC again.

  12. Dave2 says:

See? We could have totally met up for a bowl of soup… and you blew it! You also missed the entry where I gave all commenters a $50,000 Corvette Convertible and an iPod!!

That just goes to show… you simply cannot afford to miss a single day of Blogography! Your life totally depends on it! 🙂

    Maybe next time.

(well, for the soup… I’m fresh out of Corvettes now)
