Two Hundred

Posted on Monday, September 27th, 2004

Dave!Neil is always coming up with interesting memes and other tidbits for his blog, and now I know why: he reads nearly 100 feeds! And here I thought I was crazy for the 38 I read regularly. Anyway, the latest meme he's manage to dig up is called 200 Questions. This completely trumps my previous entries of 50 Things to Do Before You Die and Dave's List of Things to Do Before He Dies That Are Already Done (well, at least until somebody comes up with the inevitable "500 Questions" in a few weeks).

Usually I would take a pass on an entry like this, but I'm spending the next couple of hours on the phone and welcome a physical distraction that doesn't require a lot of thought (I loathe talking on the phone). Interestingly enough, it probably took me longer to reformat the questions than it's going to take to answer them. I wish people coming up with things like this would post the list already in HTML-list format! My answers are in an extended entry (how many people are actually going to read through all 200?!?)...

  1. Bought everyone in the pub a drink. DONE! I dropped a cool $200 (including tip) to celebrate a petty victory (sadly, that was just for the one round, and did not include the rest of my drinking for the night!).
  2. Swam with wild dolphins. DONE! In the wild is the only way I would do it. Those "petting farms" are just cruel and should be banned.
  3. Climbed a mountain. DONE! No big surprise considering I live in the mountains.
  4. Taken a Ferrari for a test drive. I wish.
  5. Been inside the Great Pyramid. That would be sweet... do they let people inside?
  6. Held a tarantula. DONE! I thought it would help me overcome my fear of bugs, but was wrong.
  7. Taken a candlelit bath with someone. No candles were involved.
  8. Said "I love you" and meant it. DONE! Outside my family? Then yes, and I've regretted it ever since.
  9. Hugged a tree. DONE! While climbing one.
  10. Done a striptease. DONE! For an audience of one and both her and I were drunk (which is my only excuse).
  11. Bungee jumped. DONE! More frightening than skydiving.
  12. Visited Paris. DONE! I love Paris and have been a few times.
  13. Watched a lightning storm at sea. DONE! Unfortunately, I was on the Seven Mile Bridge between Key West and Miami at the time, which was a bit frightening.
  14. Stayed up all night long, and watch the sun rise. DONE! Now that was a party!
  15. Seen the Northern Lights. DONE! Kind of... I've seen wimpy ones from here in Washington State, not the beautiful ribbons of light you can see in Alaska. I'd like to.
  16. Gone to a huge sports game. DONE! The biggest would be the Final Four College Basketball Tournament when it was in Seattle. Court-side, play-off game... it was great.
  17. Walked the stairs to the top of the leaning Tower of Pisa. Would absolutely love to do this one day.
  18. Grown and eaten your own vegetables. DONE! My family had a garden when I was a kid, and I helped out with things like planting, watering and weeding, so I guess that counts.
  19. Touched an iceberg. Perhaps one day.
  20. Slept under the stars. DONE! More like "passed out under the stars."
  21. Changed a baby's diaper. DONE! Fortunately, it wasn't #2, which is lethal from babies!
  22. Taken a trip in a hot air balloon. DONE! Just up and down, so it was a fairly short trip.
  23. Watched a meteor shower. DONE! Neither were very impressive, but I got to see two of them.
  24. Gotten drunk on champagne. I don't drink the stuff, but have gotten drunk on just about everything else.
  25. Given more than you can afford to charity. DONE! And it felt really great (until it came time to pay the bills).
  26. Looked up at the night sky through a telescope. DONE! I took astronomy in college.
  27. Had an uncontrollable giggling fit at the worst possible moment. Since I'm not a four year old girl, that would be no.
  28. Had a food fight. DONE! And it was with baked beans, which is not the best food to get in a fight with.
  29. Bet on a winning horse. I've been to the track once and lost all bets... didn't even place.
  30. Taken a sick day when you're not ill. DONE! Yes, but it was because my boss asked me to.
  31. Asked out a stranger. DONE! It was fun, until the next morning.
  32. Had a snowball fight. DONE! You don't live where I do and not have.
  33. Photocopied your bottom on the office photocopier. Nope, but maybe I'll give that a try tonight!
  34. Screamed as loudly as you possibly can. DONE! While trying to find a lost dog in the woods.
  35. Held a lamb. Awwwww. Haven't held a lamb, but I've held baby puppies, kittens, piglets, and chickens.

  38. Taken an ice cold bath. DONE! In a lake, against my will.

  47. Actually felt happy about your life, even for just a moment. DONE! While drunk, of course.
  48. Had two hard drives for your computer. DONE! I've got two in my Mac tower right now.
  49. Visited all 50 states. One day perhaps.
  50. Loved your job for all accounts. I've liked my job. That's a big difference.
  51. Taken care of someone who was shit faced. DONE! More times than I would have liked.

  53. Had amazing friends. DONE! And I still do.
  54. Danced with a stranger in a foreign country. DONE! In London, Berlin, and Stockholm.
  55. Watched wild whales. DONE! Yes, but not from a motor boat out annoying the poor things... from the coast like you are supposed to.

  57. Backpacked in Europe. Oh how I would love to have the time to do this.
  58. Taken a road-trip...for six days - lived in the car... I've taken many road trips, but always with hotels along the way, never "living out of my car."
  59. Rock climbing. Heights and me don't get along.
  60. Lied to foreign government's official in that country to avoid notice. DONE! Every time I go to a foreign country and the immigration official asks me the purpose of my visit, I answer "work" even if it is not. I made the mistake of saying "vacation" once, and will never do that again.

  65. In a restaurant, sat at a stranger's table and had a meal with them. DONE! The restaurant was busy and they asked me if I wouldn't mind and neither did the person at the table. We ate in complete silence, because I guess he just wasn't the conversational type.

  70. Pretended to be a superhero. DONE! I was Batman, and my homemade Bat-Mask slid over my eyes causing me to crash my Bat-Cycle into the back of a car. It was not Bat-Fun at all.
  71. Sung karaoke. DONE! Only when I've had entirely too much to drink. Once in Stockholm, it was nearly the death of me.
  72. Lounged around in bed all day. DONE! After a notorious hangover on a three-day weekend, I once spend the most part of two days "lounging" in bed.

  74. Scuba diving. DONE! And it was Maui, which made it even better.
