Obama?

Posted on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Dave! It's 11:45pm and I just got off work. I should have put in at least another two hours, but I ended up having to take a couple Benadryl after dinner and was falling asleep at my desk. I'm hoping I can write in my blog and get through the remaining 38 emails in my in-box before I pass out.

I also need to catch up with the news, as I've been cut-off from the world. As I understand it, Obama has finally officially got the delegates he needs for the nomination. As a fan of his since I read The Audacity of Hope, I'm quite happy about it. Though I've also gleaned that Hillary has not yet conceded (surprise, surprise) so heaven only knows what that means. I keep having flashes of Obama winning the presidency, only to have her show up at his inauguration screaming "IT'S NOT OVER! WE CAN STILL WIN! BARACK OBAMA CANNOT PREVAIL OVER MCCAIN! ONLY I AM READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING IN THE WHITE HOUSE!! YOU MUST PICK ME!!!"

Unless she ends up on the Obama ticket as vice president.

Though I'm not sure how I feel about that.

There was a time I wouldn't have minded an Obama/Clinton ticket... but after watching Bill & Hillary's burn-the-house-down style of diversionary politics, I'd be happier if she were nowhere near the White House. Because if that's how she treats people in her own political party... heaven only knows how she'd treat the Republicans she has to work with. One day the Minority Leader asks her if she's going to eat all of her potato chips at lunch and she comes unglued... YOU DARE TAKE FROM ME? ME?!?! SHAME ON YOU JOHN BOEHMER! SHAME... ON... YOU!!!

Yeah, that would be just great.

All I know is that no matter who wins... Obama... McCain... or even Clinton... I have hope.

I have hope that the ongoing armageddon-level disasters left to us by George W. Bush can be repaired.

I have hope that war won't be seen as the first-best solution to our problems.

I have hope that we can restore our ruined relationships with the rest of the world.

I have hope that the unfathomable divide that separates us as countrymen can be narrowed.

I have hope that the massive influence special interest groups use to rape our country will be lessened.

I have hope that our planet and life on earth will take precedent over the environment being destroyed for profit.

I have hope that our economy will recover from it's downward spiral and our dollar will have value again.

I have hope that people can live their lives free from financial ruin if they should get sick.

I have hope that our president will represent ALL of the souls in his charge, not just those who believe like they do.

I have hope that we can move forward into a future not defined by fear and hate.

I have hope that our leaders will think before they act.

I have hope that intelligence can replace ignorance.

I have hope that things will change.

I have hope.

  1. Miss Britt says:

    YAY for hope. 🙂

  2. Mr. Fabulous says:

I can’t believe she is grubbing for the VP spot now. Christ. You can almost feel the desperation and chutzpah.

  3. delmer says:

Did you mean John “Boehner” … from Ohio?

Not that I would ever correct a misspelling (due to that whole “glass blog” thing).

The only reason I bring it up is because he pronounces it “Byner” (hmmm … or Bayner) and a friend of mine with the same spelling is in the unfortunate situation of having her family pronounce it as it looks — “Boner.”

I’ve always thought JB was sort of a coward from shying away from the true pronunciation. I wonder if he corrects Bush. Does he think we, the people of Ohio, don’t say Boner?

  4. Sue says:

I am still leary over whether or not he’s ‘official’. I just am. I am not as hopeful as you, but your post is inspiring.

  5. Turnbaby says:

I hope that your hope is justified sugar. I remain less than thrilled with any of the choices.

    But I’ll vote and hope…..

  6. Michelle says:

At least you still have hope, me, I’m kinda thinking about moving out of the country. To bad moving off the planet isn’t yet available.

  7. Robin says:

Pretty lucid for 11:45 p.m. and having worked all day.

Maybe you should run for President!

Message to Hillary: It’s time to stop pouting—pick up your toys and go home!

  8. Avitable says:

I have hope that as a straight, upper-middle class married white man, nothing’s gonna change anyways.

  9. Ren says:

    Such audacity!

  10. ChillyWilly says:

Well written and very much to the point of what needs to happen to this country.

Hillary’s back and forth and “me too” political pandering were what turned me off to her a long time ago. But, if she can come to the table, and really, really try to be a uniter, an Obama/Clinton ticket could work. And it may be the ticket that can win in November *small shudder*

  11. Nat says:

Over the last few weeks, I’ve lost a lot of respect for Clinton, it seems it’s been a lot of selfish posturing. I guess it’s all selfish posturing. It’s been fascinating and horrifying to watch. (Not nearly as horrifying as watching Bush get re-elected.)

As someone living outside the U.S., I think we’re all with you. There is cause for optimism and change in the upper echelons.

    Here’s the hope.

  12. sizzle says:

I understand fighting for what you want and believing in yourself but Hillary is hurting the Democratic party now and that’s pissing me off.

I have hope, too. His name is Obama.

  13. metalmom says:

I hope all your dreams come true.

  14. Penelope says:

    I hope you’re right :o)

  15. turnbaby says:

    Mmmmmmm Fabby said ‘chutzpah’ 😉

  16. Chris says:

Yay for hope, but dude you have a lot more of it than I do currently. 🙁

  17. Sitting in Canada, I’m holding on to hope, too. Because, I can’t have a say — Even though what happens with the US politics directly affects us as well.

    It’s frustrating.

  18. Whit says:

I have hope as well, but I think Obama has a better chance of making it reality- something tells me that 4 years of McCain would just leave me hoping.

  19. Well said sir. I so hope you’re right.

  20. Catherine says:

I like your list of what you have hope for.

  21. Suzy says:

I think it’s sweet, albeit entirely naive to think any one person can change the course of a government or a country. Bush only did it by picking people to work with him who believed as he did. So change is made by many, not one. And don’t forget that the powerful veto is really what makes politics dance. Until someone has actually walked in the shoes of a President, I think it’s naive to say they can do everything we, the people, want. After all, we all want the war to end and McCain will not end it and has said as much.

My Dad worked for the government, my best friend is over at Homeland Security and her husband is at Justice. You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think it’s all rigged from the inside. Anyone who goes in green and un-ripe comes out rotten.

I won’t vote unless Clinton is on the ticket. I’m done voting for men. They’ve done enough.

  22. Hilly Sue says:

If I believed in making lists of “favorite things” like that whore Oprah, I’d totally put “hope” at the top.

  23. Winter says:

I can hope that things will change, but the truth of the matter is that no matter who is in office, the things that are tough for me in this life will not be fixed. Not unless whoever wins mandates that the cost of living in my area is to be reduced by about 25%.

  24. kapgar says:

Hope is a good thing. I just need to glean some semblance of it. Desperately.

  25. Kester Taylor says:

I’m fairly hopeful about the situation regardless of who wins, honestly. If Obama wins, we will automatically garner a LOT of goodwill from the international community, because everyone abroad just loves the crap out of him. McCain is reasonable, experience and concientious, and seems to take all of the issues important to Americans seriously, despite his belief (contrary to most) that we shouldn’t just YANK the troops out of Iraq immediately. Hilary wants power (and to stay in power) so much, that I think she’d do anything she perceived the American public wanted her to do in order to stay there. It just seems like a win-win-win to me.
